A 3-plus-year-old sweet blend of double bourbon barreled Deth’s Tar. It is finished on our favorite single-origin and hand-fire-toasted oak from the forest of Tronçais in central France – long featured in the finest, boldest red wines in Europe and the U.S. This powerful and elegant oak is interwoven with a double shot of its charred American counterpart, and the nuance of an Extra Old malt profile makes for a matchless expression of our imperial oatmeal stout.

Baker's chocolate, a hint of fudge brownie, toasty-roasty oak, and a vanilla-bourbon barrel nose on this one! Taste follows with some dark chocolate, a touch of umami and all-spice, vanilla, and a balanced yet nuanced, French oak and bourbon barrel finish. Lovely mouthfeel...good!

Canned 11/01/24
a: aggressive pour gives a one finger dark khaki colored head. The (noisy) head recedes fairly quickly. Midnight black. No lacing.
s: dark chocolate, charred wood, bourbon
t: dark chocolate and bourbon up front. Midway a moderate level of sweetness kicks in through the finish.
m: medium body. medium carbonation. some moderate stickiness
o: A nicely complex Deth's Tar variant. The one knock on it for me is it's a bit too sweet for my preference. But I dig that it was different in this way (it would be quite boring, eventually, if every beer was geared toward my preferences) and that it was released as a Twenty Ten Variant stovepipe. An enjoyable beer.

Black color. One finger thick, beige head. Chocolate, wood, roasted malt, vanilla, and cherry in the aroma. Smooth, sweet taste with warming alcohol in the end. Good.

Poured from a 19.2oz stovepipe can into a Perennial SdC tumbler. Pours a thick dark brown but settles in the glass a shiny black with a thin dark brown foam cap that quickly fades to nothing. Chocolate and bourbon on the nose and taste. Get that bold French oak as it warms. Really intense yet pretty smooth. Definitely doesn’t drink like the almost 17% abv it carries. Slightly on the sweet side but not overbearing. Full mouthfeel. Awesome Deth’s Tar variant.

Had on tap. Brown hints in an opaque black body, brown cap. Smell hints at the unique oak that will dominate the taste, but that comes later! For now the unique dare I say gnarly oak with tannic infusion really bonds to the malts and roast, oat, burned caramel, slight raisin, and char. The taste now has that le troncais chene front and center, really bonded to the roasted malt depths with char, earth, and raisin, but the oat, other oak, and molasses do clash a bit before the elegant finish. Unique barrel character results, full and has some bite to it, plenty warm. I would age if I had a can, but I will say this is truly a unique beer from rev, though not one I will rush to have again soon

Canned 11/1/24; drank 11/22/24 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance.
An even pour yielded a small dark tan head; almost no lacing remained.
Dark chocolate, wood & raisin notes in the nose.
Smooth medium thick mouthfeel with a hint of stickiness on the finish.
Raisin, dark chocolate & bourbon heat flavors up front; cherry & wood notes on the finish.
Balanced, complex & delicious; this got better as it warmed. A fantastic beer.

11/15/24 (Revolution Brewpub - Chicago, IL): $13 plus tax 9 ounce draft pour in a snifter glass.
Appearance: Pitch black pour, light tan head settles around the rim. Can’t gleam much else in the dark bar even lit with phone. 4.25
Aroma: Let this sit for 20 minutes as poured at same cold temps as draft. When it settles, I get a cherry first, than a smooth to sweet bourbon. Mild plus aroma, enticing, down the middle not too sweet or boozy. 4.25
Taste: Getting cherry and red wine front and center, these barrels really lead the way. Getting the what I believe to be Deth’s Tar base next, oatmeal stout with proper balance. Sweet overall but within reason. 4.0
Mouthfeel: Medium plus body, sweet between the wine and base, sweeter than I prefer and despite puckering at times enjoying. No carbonation, strong though light at first. Red red wine leads and the dominant finish. 4.0
Overall:This is a little too sweet to be among my favorites, very Deth By ish for my palate. Glad I didn’t get a 19.2 oz can, but also glad I ordered a 9 oz draft to have a proper assessment, and overall I’m enjoying what’s in my glass. 4.0
