473 mL can from Superstore; dated Apr 24 2019 and served slightly chilled. I've reached the last leg in a nearly month-long series of radlers and fruit beers - and how glorious it is to finally see the light at the end of that tunnel.

Pours a turbid, translucent goldenrod yellow with a tinge of pink, topped with nearly one finger of frothy, sparkling white head that doesn't last much longer than a minute. A thin collar is the only remnant; no lace, no cap. Not the most attractive beer in the world, but looks aren't everything. It smells of orange pulp, grapefruit juice, sugar and grainy pale malts, and I'd be lying if I said I could discern anything more than that.

Not bad, though I will point out that it's significantly sweeter than most of the radler competition in this market, which is not my preference for this style. It tastes of grape sugar, tangerine and sweetened grapefruit juice, with more of that tangy, fruit juice sweetness coming through towards the finish. Hints of grapefruit and sugar carry on briefly into the aftertaste. Relatively light in body, with moderately low carbonation levels that gently prickle the palate; feels a bit slick on the palate, which makes this brew a bit less refreshing than it could be. Still, it's so light and inoffensive that I had no real trouble polishing off my glass, sweet and one-dimensional as it was.

Final Grade: 3.52, a B grade. Big Rig's Bongo is decent enough, but it's not the first grapefruit radler I'd reach for in the future. Indeed, of the radlers I've reviewed lately, this one is in the middle of the pack, and falls well behind established favourites of mine (e.g. Stiegl's, which is basically the gold standard). I wouldn't turn this one down, or discourage others from giving it a shot, but at the end of the day I don't think I'll be back for more anytime soon.

Can: Poured a golden color ale with a medium size white foamy head. Aroma of grapefruit juice with light residual sugar notes are pleasant. Taste is also dominated by grapefruit juice with some light malt notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Refreshing and exactly what I would expect from the style.

Yep. Its a radler. Seems to be a proper one, especially when compared to a lot of what tries to get passed off as a radler in my neck of the woods. Properly fruity, might stand a bit more beeriness. Tasty nonetheless. I'm gonna take this and go head to head with a Stiegl and see what there is to learn.
