Very Good
BarrelHouse StoutBarrelHouse Stout
Notes: Since the first batch our people can’t get enough of this creamy and slightly hoppy BarrelHouse Stout. It’s crafted with oats for creaminess, lactose for sweetness, belgian dark syrups for intense dark fruit notes, dark malts for chocolate and roast, and just enough hops for a balanced bitter/sweet finish.

Bomber poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours dark brown nearly black with a frothy pale khaki head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little nice lacing.

S: Dark fruit, roasted malt, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, earthy, slightly herbal, faint hint of citrus, and some toffee sweetness.

T: Roasty, smooth coffee, bittersweet chocolate, a touch of char, light underlying dark fruit and faint citrus, slight earthy herbal notes, and toffee sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, creamy smooth.

O: Super smooth with a nice depth of flavor. If you told me it was a coffee stout I might believe you.

21 Junio 2020. De Beer Repúblic. En vaso de pinta inglesa de Ikea. Jugando a The Last of Us. Con queso boffard. Oatmeal stout correcta y agradable pero sin nada especialmente destacable, si acaso un ligero toque lactico. Al menos consigo chapa nueva sin sufrimiento

22 oz bomber from Don.
Crane snifter.

Pours a light brown which forms into a darker near-black body. Head is off-white and creamy, 1/2 finger tall.

Aromas of rubber, burnt wood, chocolate malt, and fruity yeast cake.

Flavor brings chocolate malt, slight cocoa puffs, ashy roast, sulfur, latex glove, slight general sweetness, and slight pine.

Feel is roasty with a ton of carbonation lighting up the beer. Medium to medium-plus viscosity. Slight slickness. Moderate warming alcohol even at 6%. Resins can be detected on the finish with more roast.

Overall this has room for improvement. Barrelhouse definitely has much better beers to offer. A huge extra in my box, but kind of disappointing unfortunately.

$ 13.57 (Including shipping)/bomber ($ 0.619/oz) from Blackwell’s, San Francisco, CA
Bottled 12/13/16 at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter, allowed to warm to 50 degrees.
Aroma – roasted malt, a hint of chocolate
Head - large (Maximum 6.5 cm, aggressive pour), light brown, frothy, decent retention. Slowly diminishes to an irregular four to seven mm frothy ring and a thin layer with rocks
Lacing – poor. A couple of irregular rocky islands remain after the lacing moves down.
Body – dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor – slightly bitter with roasted malt and some chocolate. No hops, alcohol, nor diacetyl in either taste or smell
Palate – medium, creamy, soft carbonation

At 6% ABV this seems more like the porter end of the spectrum. It certainly isn’t bad nor is it overpriced – just a little thin for a stout IMHO.

Appearance 3.75, Aroma 4, Flavor 3.75, Palate 3.75, Overall 3.75.

Appearance is a super-dark brown with a bit of light brown fine head.

The smell is a bit like smoky oats with a little bit of honey. Sweetly metallic, yet pleasant at the same time. Add a little cinnamon.

The first taste I get is charred barrel, and it overwhelms. There's a bit of tea leaf stem, and the bitterness isn't excessive, but it's simply not dynamic. Then the charred barrel takes over again. And it stays. Man, the scent had me thinking this would be something pretty good. The most I can get out of the rest is a little bit of molasses, but it's not strong enough to raise the grade.

The feel is moderate, maybe a little stronger than I'd expect for a 6.0er.

It's nicely crafted, but the taste is lacking.

Very dark, nice tan head. Slight aroma of roasted malt, not very strong. Feels much thinner than it looks & doesn't tastes as dark as it looks. Roasted malt & cream dominate the flavor with a slight bitter & sweet finish. Lots of carbonation. Very good.

Look - looks dark brown like a stout should. Light Brown grainy head.

Smell- coffee chocolate and a touch of sourdough bread

Taste- smokey bitterness of coffee made on a camp fire. Subdued hops and a slight metallicness, it's not unpleasant. There is virtually no taste the sourdough smell, I know that too much oatmeal in a stout can produce an acrid taste and I am not getting that here.

Feels - smooth, the flavor lingers on the tounge but not too much

Overall- I love Guinness but if I ran into a person that didn't like stout because of a prior experience with Guinness, I would point them in the direction of this beer! I would like to pair this one with chocolate of course maybe raspberries.

22 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass, twice

A: Pours black with a mocha colored head that did not retain very long, no lacing, some light comes through around the edges, not much carbonation, pretty straightforward appearance.

A: Fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, picking up some hops, smells pretty good.

T: Definite hop presence up front, coffee bitterness up front, hint of chocolate, some hop presence in the middle, and finishes with coffee bitterness, dry, very different taste than the aroma.

M: Medium body, got lots of carbonation at the end.

O: I had high expectations for this, it has more hops than I like in a stout, great aroma but there is a definite hop presence in the taste. If the hops were a little subdued I think this would be really good because I like my stouts with a bigger coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt presence than this beer has to offer.

Smells nicely of chocolate, vanilla, malt, and oatmeal. Taste is similar. Taste and smell are excellent.

More carbonated than i prefer in an oatmeal stout, which inhibited the smoothness.

Bottle from Beer Craft in Rohnert Park, CA

Nice and dark, thick, thick mocha head. Lightly sweet, barely any hops flavor. Minimal to no after taste. Very drinkable. Recommended
