The third installment of our Cooper's Series comes at you like a California gold rush. This majestic Imperial Red stands tall and hints at the re-emergence of spring with its rich, deep aroma and a fresh oakiness. Like a forest awakening from hibernation: the Centennial, Summit and Topaz hops come together with a variety of Crystal malts to create a sophisticated beer as grandiose as a Redwood. No Redwoods were harmed in the making of this beer, but Oak trees were.

Appearance: pours a lightish red, hinting at orange. a finger or two of a foamy head with strong retention and lacing. pretty strong clarity and brightness to it.
Smell: oak, sweet caramels, some dark fruits. citrusy and tropical fruit hops.
Taste: opens up with some strong caramel and sweet malts. some hints at raisins comes through. hops are fairly subdued but still there, lending some citrus and tropical fruits. the end is full of oak barrels and some graininess.
Mouthfeel: a touch on the creamy side. perhaps a bit too sweet.
Overall: A good beer but it is set up to be overly sweet. between the red caramel malts, the aging in barrels and the oak flavor, there needs to be something more to balance it out.
