Perrin Brewing Company
New England IPA Series (Milkshake)
Caribbean Nights
Appearance: Hazy, golden-amber color. Fluffy bone white head that settles down and leaves some lacing. No visible carbonation. I’ve poured this into my sangria / frozen cocktail glass, which seems to fit the theme for this beer.
Smell: Tropical fruit juice on the nose. Definitely getting all of the fruit including tangerine, mango and pineapple. Lightly dank and green hop qualities, including some green onion, which I love. As the beer warms up all the ingredients come together with a hint of Starburst. A bit meaty as well.
Taste: This is a 5.6% ABV IPA. I don’t really drink many IPA’s with such “low” ABV. The tangerine, mango, pineapple and lactose additions seem to be light handed. The IPA is light enough though that it still allows the fruit to shine through. A very natural fruit flavor that even adds a touch of acidity and tartness to the beer. There is some bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Moderately carbonated. Smooth feel. Dryness on the finish.
Overall: This beer is excellent. It’s nice to drink such a low ABV beer of this style. Some can be heavy, and hard to get through. This one is not. A real tasty crusher. Great amount of fruit flavor, minimally perceived sweetness from the lactose.

16 ounce sticker can, no printed on date. Poured into tulip.
Pours a medium hazy orange with peach highlights, with huge just off white head. The nose is tangerine, pineapple and a mix of tropical fruits. A lot of grapefruit taste, pineapple, grass, mango. Bitter finish with earthy hops too. Drinks bigger than it tastes which is okay in my book. Slightly creamy. Really solid for 5.6%. Overall, I feel like Perrin makes another solid attempt at the style but it’s just a bit to bitter in the finish. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t exactly what I had hoped for.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but was just released. Pours very hazy golden orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy mango, melon, pineapple, tangerine, fruit skin, citrus peel/rind, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, gooseberry, blueberry, raspberry, peppercorn, pine, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, tropical fruits, lactose, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy mango, melon, pineapple, tangerine, fruit skin, citrus peel/rind, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, gooseberry, blueberry, raspberry, peppercorn, pine, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and light fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of mango, melon, pineapple, tangerine, fruit skin, citrus peel/rind, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, berries, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, tropical fruits, lactose, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness and tart/tangy fruit balance; with minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and tart/tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/sticky, fairly resinous/rindy, and lightly acidic/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 5.6%. Overall this is an awesome fruited milkshake NEIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, tropical fruits, lactose, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Great hop profile as expected, complements the fruit perfectly. Very juicy, dank, and earthy balanced hop/fruit complexity; with a great wheat/oat/malt and lactose backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from lingering bitter dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
