THE place to go for local craft beers. 60 taps - menu available via Untappd or check their website at hopcitybeer.com. Tasters up to 16 ounce servings. Growlers, both 32 and 64. Awesome staff that will take whatever time you need to find that perfect brew (or case :). They host lots of events - tap outs, tastings, wickedly good local food vendors and a homebrew class every few weeks. Beers are sorted by style and they allow you to do singles! Also, if your better half isn't a hop head, they have a super wine selection. If you are a homebrewer, they have whatever you need from extracts to all grain and all the gear.

I am a big fan of sour beer and this is the place to go to find them (in Alabama). Great staff, great selection, good times! The only downside is where the place is located. Kind of a pain to get to if you live over the mountain.

They have a lot of beer. A lot of stuff on tap. However, CHECK DATES. I'm not from around here, so I just stopped by this shop because it was close to the interstate. They had some stuff I would have been interested in, but it was all old. Jai Alai that's 6 months old. Finchs that's all past the drink by date by 3-4 months. Bottles with layers of dust. Looking at what else is available around here, it seems to be the best in 100 miles, hands down. But, old beer is old beer.

Tasters are set at a very exceptional value, staff is knowledgeable, beer selection is world-class, prices are excellent, and everything is organized is a great way.

I came here while passing through Birmingham since I like the Hop City in Atlanta so much. They were very helpful and helped me find some beers that I wouldn't have been able to find back in Atlanta.

Absolutely great experience. They do a great job at helping their customer's find a great brew for their taste. One of my favorite growler filling shops.

A great bottle shop, Growler station, even home brewing supplies store. During busy times, the growler station can be a little bit of wait for a fill, but the on-tap (60) selection is very good. They also have a big selection of wine to keep the wine enthusiast busy while you have a beer. These guys know beer, which you would expect, but I have been to some bottle shops where the knowledge is lacking. Alabama was very late to the craft beer party, and Hop City is helping the scene catch up.

it is beer heaven, a man could get lost for hours in a place like this which is remarkable considering it's a pretty small store but they pack a wallop into their limited space and I challenge anybody to go in there and not come out with something new, interesting and delicious, the staff are great too

I've been to the Atlanta location quite a few times and was curious to see how the Birmingham location compared when I was passing through town on a business trip. The selection was great and I was able to try several locals that aren't available in GA (first time trying Good People). They had a ton of Jester King sours on the shelf that wouldn't have lasted a day in most bottle shops in the Atlanta area. I haven't even been able to find those traveling around TX. Will definitely stop here anytime I'm driving through town.

I’m always impressed with the selection and quality of Hop City Birmingham. A beer snob could spend hours in here trying to decide what to buy.
The tap area also has a nice selection of local beers, which I appreciate.
The staff is friendly and helpful as well. I came on a busy Saturday and they were willing to serve me.

I am a regular here and Hop City rules. They have everything in package available in the state and they do a great job of showcasing the local breweries in state. A growler wall with 60 taps is hard to beat. Great service from the staff, Jay and Josh are top notch.

Great, well rounded selection divided by type and a very knowledgeable staff who are eager to help educate. They have a broad wine selection and about 50 beers on tap as well. For a city the size of Birmingham, this is as good as it gets. Highly recommended.

Fairly easy to get to off I-65. Definitely worth a stop if you are passing through Birmingham. Easily combined with a stop at Good People.

Beautiful looking store with a nice layout. Single bottles are available if you don't want a six. Some nice selections that I can't find back in Ohio, including some good options from Jester King, Straight to Ale, lots of Westbrook and Evil Twin.

I was disappointed in the lack of local choices, but that wasn't really the fault of Hop City as I was told Beer Engineers and Good People are not consistently bottling their best beers. Also found several IPAs dated from January (I visited the store on Memorial Day)

Overall, they do a good job getting a great selection. Highly recommended!

This is a pretty cool place to go when in Birmingham. They have a great selection of beer and wine as well as 60+ beers on tap for tasting and/or taking home in growlers. Not the finest decor but great feel and good people to meet and talk to. I buy my kegs for my kegerator here - they are reasonably priced and will order whatever I want based on availability. I end up going every month or so to get a new keg and then end up grabbing some great beer to take home and have some at the bar.

I made Hop City an intentional stop on my cross-country drive to pick up some things I won't be able to get once I finish my move. The staff on both the retail and tap sides were fantastic, offering some nice suggestions and insights on locals while thinking through what made sense to buy there versus other markets. They definitely know their stuff and made it worth a trip to Birmingham.

I went there with my wife and I was in heaven, but she was not. But the a guy at the bar talked her into a root-beer they had on tap and that made her wait very pleasant. The only reason I did not score perfect was because the guy I talked to when I came in did not make me feel at home. Thank goodness for everyone else. Great store guys.

This is a great store!!! I actually like it better than the Hop City in Atlanta. There is a vast selection of both foreign and domestic beer grouped by style. For the most part the dates are fresh (not many shelf turds to be observed.) The staff is young, knowledgeable, enthusiast and polite. It is a nice upscale store that also carries wine, home brewing supplies, and has a big bar, patio, and growler fill station. Highly recommended!!

Beer heaven in a strange part of town. Make sure you swing by Blue Moon BBQ for a bite, then head down Fourth Ave, go under the bridge and come back on the one way Third Ave to the huge warehouse.
It's like a candy store for beer enthusiasts. Walk to the back to Growler Town and sample a few of their 4 ounce pours for $1.50-$2.00 while you're checking out the beers. Grab a six pack container or two and roam from section to section exploring the exceptional beers you can't find back home.
Some people have complained that the beers are separated from breweries to individual styles, but that makes it easier to shop. If you can't find what you're looking for, the very knowledgeable personnel will either locate it or tell you it's not available.
We dropped by at 1:00PM on a Wednesday and there were at least 12 people enjoying pours from Growler Town. It bet it's nuts on the weekend.
A memorable visit to this beer mecca. Wish I lived closer and could sample more local brews like Beer Engineers Peanutbutter Porter.
Well done, Hop City!

Nice selection and great service. There are a few beers I'd like to see ere that they don't have but if they don't have it here they have it at Highlands. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Growler city is awesome. You can get a beer on tap and walk around the store drinking it and look at the selection. Will definitely be back.

One of my favorite places to purchase my beers. The staff is very knowledgeable on beers and pairings. They also are quick to find you something comparable if they are out of the selection that you would like. They have a great growler town with more offerings than you could possibly ever sample. They allow you to drink selections out of growler town while you shop which makes the experience that much more appealing. Great crowd of local beer consumers that are there to taste great beer, not to get out of control.

This is what Birmingham has needed for a long time. Hundreds of beers to browse, we'll laid out by style. A very helpful and knowledgeable staff to assist you if needed. They have a great tap selection with lots of local Alabama beers. There is also a great wine selection.

The selection of beer in this place is incredible. Hundreds of beers in stock ranging from Stouts to specialty sodas, with 60 taps and 6 additional specialty taps. When I walked into the store, it generally takes me at least twenty minutes to browse the "new" isle just to determine what I want to take home. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and are willing to offer suggestions if you aren't sure what you want.. The one complaint I have, is that this place has become an after work "bar" and can take some time to get a pint or a growler filled.

This place is legit. Was passing through town on vacation and stopped in to check it out. I actually was just looking for a place to pick up a couple beers for the wife and I for the hotel. I was dumbfounded when I walked in, beer heaven. Being from Chicago, the combo taproom/package beer store does not exist in my neck of the woods. I may just have to open one up because it was awesome. I had to get back with dinner for the wife and kids, so I rushed out of there about thirty minutes later. I could have stayed all night. We are stopping back on the way back home so I can stock up on some stuff not available in Chicago. Great store, a bit hard to find for an out of towner though.

It was my first time visiting Hopcity and I arrived a little bit after opening time. It has a really cool industrial feel to it. Every beer is organized by style which makes it pretty easy to find what you want. The isles aren't cluttered and definitely enough room for a few folks to look around. The staff was very helpful and not pushy at all. I didn't get a growler but I saw the man behind the counter wash out customer's growlers before refilling them. But, I like how you can have a small taster or a full glass of whatever is on tap in growlertown.

Hop City really is the place to go in Birmingham. It has a changing selection of 50 craft beers on tap with a dedicated selection of local beers too.

The area is small for seating/drinking, but that's about my only complaint. Friendly and knowledgeable service, quality is great, and the prices aren't too bad.
