Pretty good stout here. More traditional than I expected. Definitely get a good coconut flavor, but the dark malt, cocoa, and coffee flavors are not forgotten by this beer. Heavy bodied and smooth. Good beer.

Good Oatmeal Stout!!!! Fairly simple profile: Sweet bready malt, some lactose and milk chocolate and a hint of coconut. Poured from a 16 oz. can into a pint glass this beer has a dense black color and a fairly small brown foamy head. The coconut is very subdued, the other ingredients were quite prominent in the nose and taste. Mouthfeel i rich and smooth as you would expect in an Oatmeal Stout. Goes down real easy. Poured from a pint glass into a tankard. Beautiful caramel colored three fingered head with good lacing thru out. The body of the beer is jet black. You can detect the coconut aroma with a whiff off the top. The first sip delivers more coconut flavor, mixed in with roasted malts, chocolate and a bit of smoke. Nice mix of flavors that go down easily, with enough fizz to clear the palate at the end. This trend of flavored stouts has been a good thing for a classic style, and Sloop did a great job with this one!

Dum ass me ordered this to find out that I already had this . I didn't like this the first time. It pour from tap black no head. Not much to smell. Taste like a watered downed yoo-hoo with a hint of chick-o-stick.not that good.

 

Oatmeal and coconut together, not a bad idea. The pour from a pint can into a clear glass liter mug is nearly typical. The top of the pour is more foamy than a traditional stout head, but it is true with its light tan color. There's no glass lacing as it recedes evenly, so none will be expected once the liquid drains. The brew itself is an almost indiscernable shade lighter than black coffee brown. Surprisingly, there's mostly roasted malt to the aroma, with the featured flavor almost absent. But that's only for the nose. Now, to taste, there's a pleasant inclusion of roasted coconut. It's more like the inside of an Almond Joy candy bar. With the lactose, this brings a milk chocolate aspect to the coconut character, which although roasted, remains sweet. But, this also can't be discounted as a stout, as roasted malt and to a lesser degree, hops also contribute. It's probably too sweet to be considered a pure stout, yet it's not nearly as sweet, nor flavored to be a definite desert beer. Enjoy this in-between for what it is.

 

 

Very dark brown with ruby highlights and clear (SRM 33-35). A fine, chestnut foam holds one half inch and slowly fades over the duration to ultimately form a ring after leaving spotty lace on a double-walled pint glass.

The malt is deeply roasted with a faint toasted coconut aroma. Creamy milk chocolate follows and is very sweet. This beer vaguely reminds me of a Cadbury caramel-filled chocolate bar.

Sweetness is as expected from the aroma, and, surprisingly, somewhat balanced by a light bitterness. Milk chocolate is strong, however, the coconut is only a suggestion. Faint black coffee is added, as well as slightly amplified caramel. A modest finish is long and very much like milk chocolate with a tiny hint of sourness.

Light carbonation lifts the medium to full body. The texture is soft and plush, while alcohol is as expected.

In my opinion, this is more akin to a Milk Stout, except that the creamy smoothness is definitely on par with an Oatmeal Stout. Generally speaking, this is a full-flavored dark beer that is well-suited to a warm, sunny, mid-Spring weekend out on the deck.
