Hazy IPA w/ orange zest & ginger
One of the world’s most iconic, independent brands & one of New York’s fastest growing breweries have come together to create a truly unique brew.
With ingredients carefully pulled from Jägermeister’s® secret and not-so-secret botanicals to perfectly complement a bold, juicy IPA, Das Jägermeister® Beer is a hazy exploration into new depths of flavor. Citrus & fruit notes from the cutting edge of dry-hopping possibilities meld with the storied history of Jägermeister’s® nearly 100 year-old recipe — for a truly epic merger of the classic & the new.
And as two independently-owned businesses in the craft beverage industry, we are proud and excited to bring this collaboration out during American Craft Beer Week!

Pale gold moderate haze. Sudsy modest white head. Fresh hopped nose. Immediate fizzy on the tongue forward, sans any bitter. Refreshing. Notice the hanging lace as the head fades. Quick to arrive is a carbonation, with vegetables notes presented in balance. Original. Strong warming from the 6.5% + in this 1 pint can. Very good brew here. What’s not to like and a smooth finish.

The pour that emptied a pint can left its contents inside a clear glass liter mug. Stark white foam is the first noticed. Beneath lies a cloudy orange-amber liquid. There's a smell of oranges and muddled spices that's not particularly inviting. It tastes some of oranges and muddled spices, but mostly it tastes off, almost like it's stale. There's not much to like about it, unless you like to chew on orange peels. It's understood that this is an IPA, not an attempt to duplicate the liqueur, another acquired taste. But, judging it as an IPA, it still comes up short delivering the orange zest promised, in a clean way. The ginger is both mild and muted by other flavors. Overall, it's an American IPA with orange zest and some spices that drinks no where close to a traditional IPA. There's no hop bite, no malt backbone nor glass lacing. That makes it far from being a good AIPA.

I had expected something altogether different...
...I wasn't expecting jaegereister infused beer, but I was certainly expecting something flavored with jaegermeister in some for or fashion. This was not that. It wasn't necessarily bad, but it wasn't something that I honestly enjoyed. Still, it looked pretty good and it had a decent juicy smell, but that was pretty much it for me. This is a one-and-done for me...

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The brew pours a hazed yellow-orange color with a small head of white foam. The head fades rather fast, leaving a good showing of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strong of a tropical fruit nature with lots of pineapple and tangerine, mixed with some peach and a decent showing of herbal smells. The herbal aromas that can be picked out are some thyme and sage. Along with these smells comes a spice of ginger, clove, and coriander as well as a touch of white pepper and lemon.
Taste – The taste begins with a tropical fruit forward flavor with a good showing of tangerine, pineapple and papaya. These tastes are paired with a bready malt and a bit of orange and apricot. There is a decent herbal and earthy hop flavor upfront, with the herbal flavors being of a sage and thyme. As the taste advances the herbal flavors get more intense and are joined by the spice flavors that were in the nose, with some ginger, pepper, and clove joining in. Toward the end the sweet fades a bit, all while the herbal and spice flavors get more intense, leaving one with a moderately juicy and more herbal taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew medium to heavy in thickness with a carbonation level that is moderate. For the mix of herbal flavors and sweet the feel is rather nice making for an easy sipper.
Overall – A rather fun brew to try. Does have some light Jager qualities, but overall, they are subtle. Not sure I would go to it again and again, but overall decent.

(16 oz can, no date/code; purchased cold single from Pinocchio's earlier this week... poured into a nonic)
L: lots of chunky, flaky sediment in a swirly, foggy, caramel-amber mess; rocky, cottony foam suds... it maintains a thin, misty cap, but doesn't lace much
S: WCIPA citrus and herbal grassy things, latent swells of oxidized mango and dried fruits, with a resurgence of chloropyll... blue-green aromas
T: the ginger is so subtle and expresses mostly on the sides of the palate in the aftertaste, but it probably wouldn't register if it wasn't marqueed on the can... this is like a blend of a WCIPA and a hazy... mashed citrus and mango, bright grassy/leafy bite... relatively dry in the aftertaste, orange and lemon husks lingering
F: pretty on point in its plushness, though it has a cut dryness and near bite in the finish from its bitter elements
O: marketing ploy... why not go full tilt with the spice intensity... interesting concept which resulted in a flavorful but only marginally notable flavor-ed IPA (2242)

On tap.
A - Hazy medium orange with dense white creamy head floating in top.
S - Tropical fruit and citrus dominate the nose.
T - Follows the nose with big tropical fruit and ends with some citrus bitterness. Nice lingering citrus on the backside.
M - Big medium body with prickly carbonation, thin around the edges.
O - Rock solid middle of the road, I'm down with that!

Tall can, without dating information that I can find....interesting concept.
The look here is of a typical NEIPA...sniff of bright oranges and fresh ginger.
Sniff carries onto the palate with the ginger biting a bit more...flavorful and complex...more mighty fine beer from Sloop.

Sloop Brewing "Das Jägermeister Beer"
1 pint can without production codes or freshness dating
$4.25 @ Wegmans, King of Prussia, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: I can only assume that this is a collaboration as it has the Jägermeister logo on the label. It's a hazy India pale ale w/ orange zest and ginger. It's poured a hazy golden orange beneath a short head of white foam. The aroma displays grainy and sweetish malt, a whiff of soft orange, and a very light, barely noticeable hint of ginger. The taste, however, is fuller but no one should be afraid that this will be anything like the massive and intense assault on the senses that Jägermeister is; it's not. There's less orange and more ginger, and a bit of woody and herbal character. The malt is basic and lightly sweetish, balanced by a moderate to median bitterness and the ginger and woody and herbal character. It finishes dry but it's not bone-dry, and there's some herbal and woody character there along with the orange but you really only get that strongly in the burp. So, overall it's a very delicate beer, and I love it! It's unusual, and yet not really that far from anything that you've already tasted. It's nicely balanced and highly drinkable despite what you might initially conjure up in your mind given the Jägermeister logo. As for being an IPA, it is 6.5% alcohol by volume but it's not a hoppy beer. I consider it just a slightly higher alcohol pale ale but I understand that labeling it as an IPA will help to sell it. In fact, apart from having Belgian yeast in play it's a little bit like a witbier. Getting back to the specifics of the beer, the body is medium-light, and it's gently crisp with a fine-bubbled carbonation. Subsequent whiffs in the aroma suggest star anise. The head held up fairly well given that it started off fairly short in stature, however the lacing is very limited. My final note is that as you work through it the ginger will develop a little bit on your palate but it's so sublime to start with that that's welcome; I love a beer that changes a little bit as you progress through it. Definitely worth trying - don't fear the hunter!

Pours a hazy orange. Thick foam. Fruity aroma. Light floral bitter body. Light sweet finish. It does taste a little like Jager. Not that Jager and beer together is something anyone should drink. It's not bad just kind of wierd. Worth a try if you like Jager.
