12oz can; no canning date.
poured into tulip glass.
Appearance: Pours a thick 2 fingers of head that quicker than normal drops down to no head with a thin ring around the glass. no lacing. noticeable booze legs.
Smell: Spicy bourbon emerges as the strongest aroma wafting from the glass; oak, chocolate and vanilla all seem to smell well balanced together.
Taste: spicy bourbon and oak. light chocolate and vanilla. Cola and black strap molasses. Might be tasting some green apple here. It's faint, but I think its a thing.
Mouthfeel: thin body. thinner than most BA oatmeal stout that I have drank. Not very boozy.
Overall: It's got decent flavors as is right now, but the green apple note is concerning. Might be an infection starting up... Its a possibility, but not totally obvious yet.

Vanilla - Vanilla aged stouts are my bane, I will always buy them if I see them. This one is pretty similar to the bourbon variant with a slightly different dimension. The vanilla does come through but actually holds back the bourbon base. It is still a good beer but had a ton of potential to build off the original.

12 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 11/16/20, had 3/27/21.
Pours a dark brown, mostly opaque, with no head and a little spotty cling. Aromas of vanilla, char, chocolate, some bourbon- more as it warms, raisins, light oak and tobacco. The flavors are a little more expansive- vanilla, bourbon, malt, chocolate, oak, raisins, some char, some tobacco as it warms. Smooth, a very good lighter full body, appropriately carbonated.
This really opens up when fully warmed. Seems a touch lighter than the straight bourbon barrel aged, but the vanilla makes this a great variant.
