It might just be me, but a beer with loads of vanilla stops tasting like vanilla and starts to taste like musty furniture. And before you ask how many mildewy nightstands I've licked over the years I think you might want to step back and take a good look at yourself.
Tangy and musty, specifically. I'm pretty sure I like vanilla, so perhaps this is too much of a good thing? It's not the first vanilla forward beer that I haven't cared for.
Maybe it's just as simple as it was when I was a kid and mom had out the vanilla extract to make cookies. Remember how great it smelled? Remember how nasty it tasted?

16 ounce can, 2022 vintage, purchased at the brewery in Marengo a while back. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. I like the aroma, the brew smells like rum, coconut, roasted malt and vanilla. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some dark fruit, oak, dark bread, coffee and earthy flavors. Good amount of barrel character. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's coating and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good brew, sweeter tasting in general but not overpoweringly so either. Certainly worth picking up if you come across some!

From the 16 oz can in a snifter via Bluejacket74! Cheers DUDE---This one is exceptional!
This fine imperial Coconut rum barrel aged double mash imperial stout conditioned on 12lbs
of Tahitian vanilla pours a rugged dark blackish brown with a nice head of brown foam that settles
to a thick ring, thin dusty layer, and shows some nice light lacing. Nose of rich fudge, coffee notes,
dark fruits, toasted coconut, and subtle vanilla dashed with sweet rum. Flavors hit the 11 mark!
Dark bakers chocolate fudge melds with earthy malts, dark coffee, dark fruits of blackberry, rich rum,
toasted coconut, tobacco, char, and mellow vanilla. Very nice mouth feel for such a monster. Smooth,
rich, coating, lightly warming, full body, light carbonation, and a deeply roasted bitter malt finish
that is well balanced and inviting.
Overall-------WOW. Period.
Cheers
