Prairie Corner Piece Imperial Stout, 11% ABV. Pours black with a light ring of brown head that left no lacing, typical of Prairie stouts. Nose is all sweet cake and vanilla. Taste follows plus chocolate, moderately sweet, slightly bitter. Truly a pastry stout. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. If I ever pour a Prairie stout and it generates more than a slight ring of head, I'll know it's counterfeit.

Black color. Medium-sized, beige head. Cocoa, roasted malt, and cake in the aroma. Moderately sweet and well balanced. Way better than oversweetened pastry stouts that are very common nowadays.

12 oz bottle split with a friend. Poured into a red wine glass. This doesn't taste much like birthday cake, but it does have a dark/dried fruit flavor. Not sure what to think, but after 4 years I guess one shouldn't be surprised.

 

One of my most favorite things in this world that I truly love to enjoy is the corner piece of a cake. It simply makes my day, even year, when I can get the corner piece - especially so, when it's not my birthday. That said, this brew is akin to that feeling...

One of my favorite brewers, Prairie Artisan, truly hit it out of the park with this one - if they were trying to bring to people the taste of a corner piece of cake in a beer - this is as close as anyone will likely ever get to that experience. A beautifully dark beer with the smell of a cake, a mouthfeel that was sits somewhere between medium- to full-bodied, and the taste which is an almost perfect blend of sweetness, booze, and roast - pretty damn close to perfect, I say.

If you haven't had a chance to experience this - do so, you will not be disappointed. Though it comes close being a dessert beer, and I think you can easily consider it as such, I still enjoyed it as it weren't...

12 ounce bottle, bottled 06.11.2020. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that stuck around a little while. Decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like vanilla, roasted malt, milk chocolate and some frosting. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some yellow cake/bready malt, marshmallow and fudge flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good brew, but would recommend this one more to those who like the really sweeter tasting imperial stouts. Definitely a dessert/pastry stout.

Big fan of Prairie beers, and so was looking forward to this new to me beer. Oh well ..

The beer looks like any other prairie beer, as it pours a thick, viscous, blackish brown color with minimal head retention and lacing. The nose is attractive as well, and does indeed remind one of cake frosting, chocolate and vanilla. I think it smells great. On the palate however, this is a complete fail. The sweetness is over the top, to the point the beer is cloying and pretty much undrinkable. Mouthfeel is full, but the sweetness, excessive vanilla and high alcohol make this a complete mess.

This is a pretty expensive beer, so I hate to just dump it, but this beer is a complete mess and is just undrinkable. Oh well...

 

 

A - Pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Light soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is vanilla and dark and milk chocolate.

T - The taste is vanilla, marshmallow, brown sugar, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and light roasted malts.

M - Medium body with medium carbonation. Syrupy mouthfeel with an oily finish.

O - Well done dessert stout.

Off white head when poured from the bottle. Dark Brown Color. Scent is very true to a cake! A little on the sweet side, but cant say much more than they nailed what they were trying to get here.

 

 

Pours pitch black color with a small brown head that faded quickly and left zero lacing. The aroma is just as much chocolate cake with vanilla icing as it is chocolate. It comes off as very sweet smelling, with bakers chocolate, milk chocolate, vanilla icing and then what seems like brown sugar mixed into a glass of chocolate milk. No hops come through and minimal stout aspects.

The taste is like the smell and very sweet overall, in fact too sweet for my liking. The flavors include bakers chocolate, dark chocolate, vanilla icing, brown sugar, coffee, cake batter, heavy cream, vanilla extract and confectionery sugar. Over the top in the sweetness department, this was not for me even though I respect the brewer's ability to emulate a piece of birthday cake in a stout form. The best part of this brew is it's ability to hide the ABV through the cloyingly sweet taste.

 

Served in a snifter glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Dark chocolate melted a umber color with medium carbonation and heavy coffee no milk fusion on the body. Tan head head rising about a notch below one finger's length above the body.

Smell: chocolate croissant with hints of hazelnut spread meshed with a sweet bread. Sticks to the nostrils and makes love to it.

Taste: A very complex milk chocolate with hints of yellow cake and another light dose of vanilla.

Mouth: Super full body, sticky as tar under your fresh pair of sneakers. Sweet finish and soft carbonation which feels like a true dessert.

Overall: My mom used to make yellow cake when I was a kid and I would love frosting it with chocolate frosting, this beer is that just all in one glass.

Jet black brew that leaves a very thin, yet surprisingly sturdy head. And I mean thin! A true dessert beer--sweet but not cloying. You'll detect a blend of things--chocolate, vanilla, molasses, cake batter, milk. More novelty than art. Enjoyable, but not worth revisiting.
