A beautiful clear golden color in the Pilsner glass, with a pure white head that lasts well. Fragrant with hops, flowery and piney. Crisp and moderately carbonated.
It's nice to taste a light-bodied lager with such an lingering kiss of hops. Well, it's a pretty soulful kiss, but you get the big Citra hop aromas and mouthful of flavors. A touch of grapefruit, but minus the pith. Just pleasantly bitter and tangy in the aftertaste.
From the name, I guess they want this to be a Mexican lager. Fortunately it's better than any actual Mexican beer. This is a notable use of hops to liven up a light beer. I hope Amplified keeps this in the regular rotation-- it is a great summer quaff and not quite like anything seen in San Diego, where every night is hop stupid night. On tap at the brewpub at California Kebab in Pacific Beach.
