Rye Guy is a West Coast style IPA that uses a ton of rye malt as part of the all-Canadian grain bill. American hops give it distinctive citrus and pine notes. The result is a crisp, full-bodied beer that is surprisingly sessionable for 52 IBUs.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From their Hoptastic Voyage boxset at my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. Canned May 7/25. My 10th beer from the Ottawa, Ontario brewery, and 4th for 2026. With Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Beyond the Pale's Hoptastic Voyage mixed pack; dated May 7 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear brassy golden colour, topped with an inch of fluffy, foamy white head that dissipates at a casual pace. Five minutes later, a generous collar of creamy froth is left encircling a thin cap, with a full coat of lace draped around the glass. It's a beautiful beer. Rye bread on the nose, with grapefruit and earthy, piney hops also apparent; a touch resiny, with hints of pineapple and berries.
Very well-balanced, with great flavours from both the rye & hops. Bready malts, rye, orange and grapefruit hit the tastebuds early, joined by pineapple and lightly caramelized sugars shortly thereafter. Spicier on the back end, with earthy hops and pine resiny bitterness bringing up the rear; grapefruit and pineapple reverberate into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with relatively low carbonation that rolls softly along the tongue; silky-smooth, satisfying mouthfeel that endows this rye IPA with effortless drinkability.
Final Grade: 4.06, an A-. I am admittedly partial to rye beers - one of a handful of styles which, to my bemusement, have become more rare over the last ten years (or at least, more difficult to come by in my neck of the woods). Black IPAs are another one, but now I'm getting off-topic. Rye Guy IPA certainly scratched my rye itch, though I think there's still room for improvement. I was impressed by how well they integrated that 6.7% - this is ridiculously drinkable for such a strong beer - but a bigger hop punch might've made a more striking impression. Solid stuff; I'd buy this weekly if it were available as a single.

Pours pale ber with a moderate head. Smooth with the rye blending well with the slightly citrusy hops. Nothing stands out - flavours well blended. Gives the impression of being sessionable.

I like this beer, but feels like a bit of a rip off from "Fire in the Rye". Good taste, decent mouth feel, and strong finish. Would recommend.
