Poured from 22oz bomber into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: rich golden hue with a light haze and a thin finger of frothy ivory foam. Good color, but the head is a little bit low.

Smell: earthy, herbal, funky, sassy, grassy hops, atop a sweet malt base. The mélange is not bad, but it's a bit messy.

Taste: super earthy and herbal, piney hops atop a sweet yet toasty and very slightly biscuity malt base. The overall effect is super autumnal and earthy. It's not bad, per se, but it's also not really my jam.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a low level of carbonation and a generally low creaminess.

Overall: as I said, it's not bad, and some may like it. But the heavy earthiness without much to complement it is just a bit much for me.

Pours a beautiful orange meets copper pushing a frothy tan head of foam that trails off to a loosely packed layer skimming the surface.
Scents of floral citrus and piney hops leap forward followed by a lite malt aroma.
Taste begins citrusy with some tropical fruit leanings. Pineapple? Yet the piney comes through gently on the back. A bit resiny as well. Quite a pleasing mix.
Finish is more piney and resiny with the citrus notes brining a dryness to the finish.
Mouthfeel is a tad thinner than I prefer. All in all, a respectable DIPA.

22oz bottle poured into a large mug. If there is a date or code on the bottle, I don't see it.

Pours cloudy amber golden with a medium head that hangs around. Medium amount of fine carbonation. Smells like old hops. Lemony, musty wood.

Taste is fairly bland. Some hints at things I like -- flowers and pine, but nothing really stands out.

Mouthfeel is fine, surprisingly effervescent.'s not bad.

Poured into a snifter from a bomber.

Color was a light amber with a two finger white head with good retention. A bit of haze that didn't clear. Moderate lacing. Smells is caramelized oranges - quite sweet on the nose. Flavor follows the nose with some citric hops that give way to a caramel sweetness. Mildly bittersweet on the finish. Body is medium to high with some hop oiliness mixed with the thick malt. Overall, an easy to drink beer that would be a good intro to DIPA.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a snifter.

Pours a dark amber body with a 2 finger white head that reduces fairly quickly to leave some foam.

Smell is pine, resin, heavy malt background. Taste follows the nose with pine, floral hops, caramel, sitting on a pretty heavy pale malt backbone. somewhat watery and muted.

Decent, nothing special.

Pours a murky copper color with superior cloud-like head retention and moderate carbonation. Super sticky foam coats the glass. Smells of salty sweet caramel and tastes pretty much the same. There's also a decent helping of citrusy hop flavor, but the malt takes center stage. Surprisingly light and smooth for a DIPA. Not really what I was hoping for but not bad either.... Easy drinking though...

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a half finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus hops, light tropical fruit, lemon citrus. Flavor of caramel malt, mixed citrus and tropical fruit, citrus and piney hops. Long, lingering, nicely balanced but intense nearly resinous hop finish. Medium bodied. After being somewhat underwhelmed by the aroma and intial flavor rush, this developed a nicely complex and tasty hop flavor that was well supported by the malt. And that malt support is important because the hopping in this is not shy. Enjoyable introduction to this brewery new to the Northwest. I'll watch for them again.

Really nice aroma of juniper and mango with a fresh breeze off the piney lake. Color is a dark amber with an abundance of foam in the New Belgium snifter. Lots of lacing in the glass.

Fruity and intense with a deep malty taste. Fairly sweet but tending toward bitterness and a dryer finish. Flavors of cedar and salted plum. This is not quite tropical fruit but more of meaty taste with some fermenting pineapple and shortbread. There is a salty tang that adds to the intensity of flavors.

I think this is one of the better great big IPAs I've had lately. It seems to deliver the huge hoppy tastes while maintaining a sippable friendliness. Here's another reason not to overlook Orange County as a serious beer region, after stopping in Temecla, of course. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Olive Tree Market in San Diego.

On tap at Valiant Brewing Company in Orange, CA.

Pours a clear honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with honey and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.
