Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American Pilsner
Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. snifter elemental (earth) glass
Price: $2.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: March 25, 2022
Consumed: March 30, 2022
Misc.: Canned on Jan. 28, 2022
Grabbed a bunch of There Does Not Exist and Burgeon beers, and a few others on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Untappd description was “Beauty School is a modern take on the classic Pilsner style. This beer takes the crisp and refreshing drinkability of a bright pilsner and packs in a dry hop regiment of tropical flavors and dank aromas that will drive you wild. You’ll be shooting for the stars after just one sip.”
Poured a pale-to-medium yellow clear color with two fingers of frothy white head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled grain, light hops, dry grass, hay, black pepper, lemon and citrus zest. Better out of the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste was about as good as the nose. In order got grain, dry grass, hay, black pepper, lemon, citrus zest and light tropical hops. No mention of hops but I’d lean toward Motueka and maybe one more. (Taste - 3.75)
Light body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Clean, crisp finish. (Feel - 4.50)
This was very good overall. I’d have this again for sure. Would be a great golf beer. (Overall - 3.75)

Appearance: Pours clear, yellowish gold color. A white foam head that lacks a bit in retention. Medium to high carbonation.
Aroma: Malted grains, with a surprising twist of floral hops. A little bit tropical.
Taste: malty grains and biscuity up front, some floral hops in the back. A clean finish.
Overall: pilsner isn't my favotite style, but this one is very good. Somebody made this one with love.

Hmmm, nice job here. Tastes like a cross between a German pils and an American Pale Ale. A bit of grass and honey and lager malt, but also trippy tropical, citrus and indeed dank notes as well. You know, why not? It’s a fun interpretation of the style, like a relaxed dialogue between the two different styles.

Pours mostly clear and straw to yellow with a good head and lasting sheeny cap.
It's got a good aroma with straw notes, and a flavorful bouquet of grain and hops fitting of the style.
Fancy can art sometimes wraps some dam good brews, as in this case.

nicely hopped and quite unique pils type here, pale yellow and frothy headed from the tap with great clarity, lots of bubbles, looks refreshing. the nose is a touch sweeter than i am used to in the style, but its not a distraction, it seems to work well with the higher than average and perhaps more modern hop dosage and profile here, a hint of lime leaf, lemon curd, and sweet corn, or even creamed corn from the can, yet still retaining a crispness you need in the style. the flavor is hoppy earlier on rather than just a bitter crisp finish, and i have to venture a guess that they use more than just noble hops in here, melon and bursting citrus to me, less of the grassy spicy bite, more dry hopped too to me. pleasant and fits a nice spring evening well, but the residual sweetness from the malt and the slightly fuller body it seems to add make this a little slower than i thought it might be, even though some european character in the taste of the grain is retained so this still has some classic pils elements. i like the increased hops here, and i like the experimentation, recognizable in its style but definitely also quite unique in it. drier would be better, but this is fun and tasty, a good continuation of the series with deftones!
