This beer was quite interesting in its spice notes, but lacked a depth that would've gotten it a higher rating.

It pours a dirty yellow and has a nose of grapefruit with a pungent tartness. The taste starts citrusy, and then the spice hits. The transition reminds me of licorice for a split second before the flavors turn towards, of all things, a poking ale - allspice, cinnamon, etc. There is also a slight pepper note in there.

These spices linger a little on the tongue, but the backbone behind all the forefront flavors is kind of bland. Maybe it's missing some stronger malt or some bitter mouthfeel, but I feel like I want a little more I'm there to make it a really good beer.

Purchased growler at Trophy - they had Best in Show on tap, but not this variation. Poured into a Sam hybrid glass.

A: Copper with minimal, thin head.

S: Hoppy with yeast sweetness. Grassy.

T: Balanced fresh, grassy hops, fruity yeast, and nice malt sweetness.

M: Medium-light body and medium carbonation.

O: This worked out really well. I tried "Best in Show" on tap while I was there and found the citrusy character to be a little overpowering. This variation works well though. Recommended for a hoppy-saisony-thing that manages a good balance.
