Farmhouse ale brewed with grain from Sugar Creek Malt, Illinois-grown hops, and juniper branches, laurel leaves, bee balm, and marigold from our property. Fermented with our wild house mixed culture. Light and spicy with a peppery and oregano-like finish.

Refreshing after exercise in the winter.
Had on tap at The Beer Temple (who usually has an ale from Scratch.)
While I regrettably have only had three ales from Scratch (another was called Leaves.) I very much like how they use herbs for balance and flavoring, instead of leaning on hops... as is commonly done by novice brewers.
Of course, Scratch is no novice... but still young at heart, particularly showing a lot of heart that they put into sharing their southern Illinois terroir of malt, farming, foraging and putting it all into the food they prepare. (I particularly want to try their bread, but alas it will be hard to get it. And their restaurant menu looks interesting also.) And some really beautiful photos on their website. I also give some Big OA Hugs to Scratch for their dedication to brewing for their food and integrating the two. My chief critique is they are too damn far away to visit.
As for Branches, it Looks appetizing with sufficient foam; albeit could be less pale and more amber for winter. Smells are subtle from the herbs and the multiple grains I surmise are in the malt bill. Tastes are well-integrated with the malt sweetness and the herbs playing on the palate for the duration. I'd like to have another, but I rode my bike !

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
