This funky bundle of joy is the 4th installment of our Due Date series. To celebrate co-founders Logan & Joe’s first child, we looked for inspiration in beer made famous in West Flanders. Brewed with Dates, aged with brettanomyces in tawny port barrels, finished on cherries, and bottle conditioned, this beer has been babied from start to finish. Don’t forget to cherish every moment with this beauty.

750ml bottle. Corked, capped, with a foil wrap. No dating information found. In fact, there is not even any label information as to the brewery that brewed this beer. I had some indication what this beer was when I found it on the close out shelf at France 44, and I looked forward to drinking the beer.
The cork exited with gusto, with a little tug, and fortunately there was no overflow. Deep amber colored body, with a tremendous upflow of bubbles. Each pour results in half beer/half foam. The foam recedes quickly down to a thick cap, which is refreshed by the rising bubbles. The foam is egg shell white in color. No lacing.
Aroma is leather and grass, with a little barnyard. Certainly expresses the figs and the cherries. Seems to have a port base behind it all.
Taste continues with the aspects of the nose. Somewhat tart. Fruity from the figs and cherries. Again the port barrel is supportive but subtle. Aftertaste gets the nod of vinegar.
Very light and airy in the mouth, but not fizzy. Burp inducement comes quickly. High level of carbonation.
Nothing over the top but expresses quite a bit of complexity. Very well done blend of flavors. Tastes very good. The airy mouth feel is something not often encountered. As the beer warms the tawny port is more evident, which is an excellent base for this beer. Overall quite outstanding. I am very pleased to have found this bottle and to have sampled its contents.
