Formerly: Disco Demolition DDH

We’ve reimagined Disco Demolition Night – one of baseball’s most dangerous ballpark promotions – as a disco-dance party and brewed it as a celebration of disco music and culture. It is an explosively juicy double IPA bursting with flavours of orange, pineapple and hints of gentle strawberry rounded out by a slightly dry, medium finish.

Can: Poured an orangey color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and minor lacing. Aroma of piney hops notes with some dry resinous notes. Taste is also a mix of piney and resinous dry hoppy notes with some bitterness in the aftertaste. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Old school double IPA but a bit short on aromatic hops.

355 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $4 CDN. Review from notes.

Appearance - Fairly pale more yellowy gold color with lots of haze and a decent finger of white head that rests on top.

Smell - Grapefruit and melon predominately with a smattering of other citrus in there.

Taste - Similar to the nose, citrus, namely grapefruit then some melon. Pineapple plays a role as well and just a bit of a weedy finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, with crisp carbonation. Fairly dry finish and easy to drink for a near 8% ABV brew.

Overall - One of those brews that isn't quite outstanding in any way, but damn solid across the board. Highly recommended as always from Left Field as their IPA's are continuously among the best in province.

Pours a kind of bland yellow, but the nose isn't bad. Hops, citrus mix it up with a bit of malt and lager scent. But the taste is like some sort of pop. Kind of unexpected. Not necessarily bad, but not my style, if there is a style like this.

355 mL can from the LCBO; packaged Sep 23 2021 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a relatively clear golden-blonde colour, topped with nearly one finger of foamy white head that falls off within two minutes or so. It splatters a snaking band of lacing about in the process, with a frothy collar and sudsy cap also remaining in place. Looks fine to me, and the nose shows off some nice variety, including notes of melon, tangerine, grapefruit, mango and strawberry, with a touch of floral hops.

A quality DIPA - it's got a firm, wheaty backbone with bready sweetness, but the Azacca, Belma and Cashmere hops are the stars of the show, as they should be. Plenty of grapefruit, accompanied by mandarin orange, melon, pineapple and mango, followed by a mildly floral, moderately pine resin-y bitterness at the finish; hints of citrus pith and hop resin fade into the aftertaste, which is fairly dry. You'll notice the nearly 8% at some point: there's a little bit of warmth that builds as you sip your way through the glass, but it's definitely on the lighter side of this style. Medium in body, with assertive carbonation that remains crisp, prickly and biting right down to the last gulp - this wouldn't work with all DIPAs, but it helps this one pop, making it feel lively and invigorating, if not exactly refreshing. Pounding back this short can was way too easy.

Final Grade: 4.14, an A-. Disco Demolition Night is a very solid imperial IPA with some great flavours, particularly its citrusy notes and its robust bitterness - those are totally my old school IPA jam, so I must give credit where it's due. That being said, I wouldn't say it ranks amongst the best doubles you can find in Ontario... though it is certainly one of Left Field's better IPAs, at least of those that I've tried. I think I'd take their 10 Cent Beer Night over this, but I'd need to try 'em side-by-side (and fresh) to know for sure. I know it's not a brut IPA, but I think folks who like those will love this one.

Pours a semi-opaque dirty yellow with a finger of medium density white head. Decent retention. Loads of hoppy aromas wafting out of the glass. Mostly fruity / tropical notes that make for an overall appealing aroma. Taste is interesting. My immediate knee jerk reaction (like the first 1-2 seconds once it hit the tongue) wasn't all that great, but then the taste quickly evolved into something I found much more pleasing. Lots of pineapple and citrus, and an overall taste that somehow reminds me of Hawaiian flavored life savers (but not in a cloying sweet kind of way). Feel is a little thin, but with a nice semi-dry finish. Good beer.

Pours hazy straw with a chunky, everlasting head. The aroma is of citrus and tropical, pineapple hops with sweet, bready pale malts. The taste is orange, peach, mango, grapefruit, pineapple with plenty of malt present for balance. The mouthfeel is full bodied with a creamy carbonation. The mouthfeel is medium dry with moderate bitterness and lingering hop fruitiness.

A nice, balanced DIPA. Complex fruit flavors with a robust malt profile. Malty for the style.
