The beer pours a very dark brown bordering on black. Essentially, the beer has a nice dark chocolate color that makes it pretty appealing. The head is a brownish tan color, and the head dissipates fairly quickly. The beer also seems to have a thin texture to it but it doesn't detract too much from the look. Overall, the beer has a good look.
The smell has some strong bourbon and vanilla notes that mix very well with the chocolate notes. The beer smell has some light and bitter hop notes are but they seem to be constantly covered and rarely make an appearance. The bourbon note is fairly strong but weakens a little bit as it warms up; allowing the other notes to come out and develop.
The beer has a pretty good taste from the beginning. The bourbon notes are fairly strong but do not cover up the other notes. The milk chocolate comes out pretty well against the bourbon and takes the edge off of the bourbon. The vanilla note is also pretty strong but mixes well with the chocolate. Regrettably, the hop note is only marginally stronger and seems to only rarely surface.
The beer has a decent feel. It has a heavy body but a thin texture to it. While it has some weight, the barrel aging seems to have smoothed it out a bit and turning the feeling into a smooth cream feel. The tingling carbonation gives it a bit more feeling than it would otherwise. Overall, not bad.
Overall, this is a pretty good beer and definitely worthy of trying. It's a very easy drinking RIS.
