Got this one from speciaalbierexpert.nl. Cheers!
From a bomber into a snifter
Bottled on 23 October 2019
Bottle 273 of 400
Imperial Stout with cacao nibs, coconut, almonds and maple syrup
APPEARANCE: Slow foamer here. Pours out transparent dark brown and yields a huge, three finger, looser, foamy, light brown head with good retention. Foamy and potholed. Black body with piles of carbonation evident. Splotchy, foamy wisp and ring but leaves no real lacing on the glass.
SMELL: Wet cardboard, tart cherries, acrylic and metallic, with lemon as well. Very tart and not stout like. Most likely infected.
TASTE: Tart and sharp. Wet cardboard, acrylic and metallic flavors, with some sharp tartness at the swallow. Harsh metallic and sour flavors linger long after the swallow. This is clearly infected. Sour, harsh and acrylic, metallic flavors all over this one.
PALATE: Foamy and light on the palate. Goes down okay with a puckeringly tart harshness at the swallow and finishes astringent. Unpleasantness lingers.
OVERALL: Too bad. This is either infected or horribly, horribly oxidized. Since it’s only a year old and there was nothing wrong with the cap, I’m guessing it’s the former. This is not the first brew from a Dutch webshop that was horrible. The few Big Bad Baptists I had were also shitty. I’m starting to think that Dutch webshops are getting whatever stuff is unsellable on the US market. Probably not worth dumping $25 on webshop bottles of US imperial stouts, especially when local stuff is just as good. I’ve had even more wretched than this, but this one is pretty terrible.
