Not malty enough, which when combined with the aggressive herbal and peppery hoppiness put this barleywine off-kilter. The high ABV is clearly evident but not over powering. The nose is more inline with the style, with mild peppery notes and molasses maltiness. Pours a wonderfully clear amber with a half-finger light tan head. A medium heavy bodied beer with a semi-dry finish that contains some heat/burn from the ABV.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a pint glass. Had a medium brown color and an extremely cloudy consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy, off white, fairly long-lasting head. Average lacing.
S: A very nice aroma of malt, toffee, apples, some other light fruits, and hops.
T: Tasted of a decent amount of apples (becomes more pronounced as you go on), a bit of hops (less than expected; mostly in the finish), a good amount of toffee (sweet, but not cloying), lots of malt (the major ingredient here), and another light fruit (pears, perhaps?). This is a subtle, focused, likable flavor that gets better as you go. Pretty tasty.
F: A below average amount of carbonation with a sharp finish. Medium-bodied.
O: A rock solid, easy to drink barleywine. Drinkable.
