Canned on 4/29/24. From the pint can, it pours a hazy amber color with a nice white head that slowly reduces to a thin layer. The nose gets an unpleasant citrusy scent - interesting. Taste follows nose with a slightly off citrusy taste - not bad, just not quite right. I suspect the can was stored badly...

Drink early!

A - Incredibly hazy dark medium orange colored pour with a thin layer of lacing hanging out on top.

S - Citrus, pineapple, papaya, apricot, and some spiciness.

T - Big citrus, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, apricot, and berry with some earthy spiciness. Starts sweet and ends sweet with a slight bit of resiny pine.

M - Big pillowy soft body with some chewyness.

O - This is pretty darn good and a stand out.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left a collar around the edge of the glass and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of pineapple are present in the nose along with notes of mango.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional notes of grapefruit with hints of alcohol towards the finish. Little to no bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied, juicy and a bit crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has an interesting mix of aromas and flavors, but the hints of alcohol in the taste detract from its drinkability.

Exactly one month ago (wow, time flies), I had a can of The Death of Civilization I and enjoyed it, but thought it could potentially be improved a bit. Since this is basically an updated version of that beer, I'm hoping it seems like they took my specific advice into account because I'm a super-important beer reviewer and they should absolutely only pay attention to me and what I want. *pours big fuck-off NEIPA into glass and begins to pontificate*

Alright, yep, it pours *checks notes* just like the other TDOCISM beer I had: opaque orange with a solid, fluffy head that builds up to a few fingers before sinking to a comfortable single-finger of suds with great legs. Lace is pretty good, too, but it's nothing to really write home about in my opinion. Surface has some solid coverage going on and everything looks to be pretty much in stylistic order, so let's get into the actual stuff people care about: what cigar would this IPA pair with? Well, they tell you right on the can, which is pretty handy—

Just kidding, next up we're talking about the nose, of course. This seems to be heavily hopped with Citra and El Dorado according to the Untappd entry for the beer, but it also does say they utilize Mosaic and Galaxy as well. Sounds pretty normal but good, so how does it smell? Well, it's really quite nice. I pick up papaya and overripe mango followed by some melon and apricot touches with a hint of grassiness and more stone/orchard fruit following through. It smells a lot like the original Death of Civilization in Slow Motion, honestly. I guess since history is pretty much cyclical, it should be expected that this particular death of civilization would smell and seem pretty similar to the last one, right? Snark aside, this is good.

Also, just kidding, this is probably still going to be a snarky review going forward because that's just where my mind is, and this brewery sorta brings it on themselves with the pretentious shit all over their labels. I tease because I love, though, at the end of the day.

Flavor profile is a little bit different than expected. Syrupy sweet pineapple and a big mango hit that works well with the creamy lactose. Melon and grassy undercurrents with some booziness becoming apparent as it reaches room temperature, leaning into its strength in a pretty even-handed way if I'm being honest. Hints of tangerine and grapefruit with some marshmallow-type smoothness washing it all down. I think this is a slight improvement on the "original" TDOCISM, but maybe I only think that because I actually want to believe they specifically listened to my advice on how to improve on it. The feel is certainly better; feels bigger and bolder but still pretty hoppy and expressive. I'm still not really sure that this is as complex or as amazing as they seem to want to imply it is with that ridiculous name, but then again, all their beers are kinda like that so it probably is just what it is with AT. I'll shut up now. Buy it and enjoy it if you think you will, or don't.
