Notes of dark chocolate and coffee are balanced with trace bitterness and booziness, enveloped in a rich, bold body and creamy mouthfeel, with caramel notes becoming more prominent as this stout approaches cellar temperature.

L: Pours a dark umber, near-black. Forms a very thin espresso head, which is quick to dissipate with no traces of lacing or retention. Held to the light, this beer has a thick, oily tarry chocolate hue. Interesting note - there is a geyser of lingering effervescence in the middle of the snifter, unlike any I've ever seen, indicative of incumbent carbonation in this brew.
S: Chocolate, roasted malt, dark-roast coffee, smoke/char, hint of spice and hops.
T: Chocolate malts, roast, coffee bitterness, spices (anise, perhaps?), and a little bit of char and burnt sugar towards the middle. Finish is dry and astringent, with some hops and boozy warmth.
F: Full-bodied, smooth with some moderate carbonation.
O: Adroit rarely disappoints and this beer is a good addition to their IS collection. Plenty of malt, chocolate, coffee, and spice. Smooth mouthfeel, goes down easy despite the hefty ABV. Hops are a welcome addition as well, understated is the key. Will be back for more.

Canned 2020/12/21
Pours a large foamy tan 1.5 finger head that fades slowly, great retention, soapy lacing, pitch black color
Nose dark malts, a little char and fair roast, baking spices, little anise, a bit of marshmallow and nougat with creamy chocolate, touch fruity esters, spicy hops in the background
Taste brings lots more dark malt, cocoa, dark chocolate, roast, little charred coffee and burnt caramel, nougat and burnt marshmallow, bit of baking spice and anise, spicy hops with med bitterness, light enough alcohol, drier mild sticky finish, lingering spicy hop bitterness that clashes a bit with the roast bitterness
Mouth is fuller bod, soft, chewy, med frothy carb, light warming alcohol
Overall not bad, a bit of clash with roast and hops again which seems to be common with this brewery, for RIS it's decent but not great

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of chocolatey malts are present in the nose along with hints of roast.
T: The taste follows the smell but has stronger flavors of roasted malt and underlying hints of caramel malts. There is a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly full-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. There is some dryness in the finish.
O: This Russian Imperial Stout tastes a little more rounded out compared to other beers in the style and isn't as roasty and bitter. It does a good job at masking a good portion of alcohol from the taste.
