I am drinking Ghost 1045 today using a tulip glass. Served it at 48 degrees. The pour created a creamy, one-fingered, dark tan head with poor retention. The color is dark brown, nearly black, charting around SRM 38. The quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The beer's clarity is opaque. This style's overall appearance is average. The poor head retention could be from the high ABV.
Nosing the glass, I smell molasses, chocolate, raisins, dates, char, nuts, vanilla, burnt sugar, bready, caramel, and roasted coffee. The chocolate is standard 40% cocoa; I wish it was darker. The coffee has a bright, earthy, medium-roasted aroma. The nuttiness and coconut are there but are faint compared to the more dominant dark roasted malts. After nosing the glass several times, I noticed muted floral esters and subtle earthiness. Impressive, this is not barrel-aged.
That was the first time I had a piece of macadamia nut in the first sip; it was boozy and yummy. The massive malt profile is what I initially tasted; it was bready, toasty, and roasty, with slight char and a hint of smokiness. Sipping the beer again, I taste dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, dates, and raisins. The dried fruits come off as a sugar component. I don't know how it works, but it does. A light vanilla and medium roasted coffee with earthiness. A subtle floral and herbal note on the backend.
The mouthfeel is warming and chewy. The body is heavy with medium-low carbonation.
Wow! This beer is sublime for a Russian Imperial Stout. A barrel-aged version would be phenomenal. I loved this beer and am glad I had the chance to consume it; well done.

Poured cellar temp to a Glencairn glass. Dark mahogany color. Lots of assumedly coconut floaters on top is a little off-putting, but tolerable. Nose is pleasant though a bit non-distinct to me, sort of a sweet floral note with a hint of malt. First sips are excellent! All the flavors are identifiable, playing harmoniously. No alcohol bite, no warming. Considering its 14% abv, that is something to keep in mind. Very easy to consume big sips. Mouthfeel is full and satisfying with a nice long linger of flavors. This isn’t even barrel aged? A BA version would probably be out of this world.
