We originally made this beer for our friends in Imperial Triumphant before meeting up with them at Decibel Fest. Well, we all loved this beer too much to retire it - sometimes simplicity is best. This big, roasty stout already offered roasted malt notes of espresso & bakers chocolate and a balance of bitterness and malt sweetness before being conditioned on freshly roasted coffee beans.

L: Pours a dark chocolate that forms a thick tan head. Slow to fade, forming a nice silky layer of espresso retention and a healthy lacing around the edge. Held to the light, this beer has a heavy, fudgy dark brown hue.
S: Coffee, roasted malts, cocoa beans, and a whiff of sweetness.
T: Starts off with rich, roasted coffee beans, baker's chocolate, and roasted malts. Earthy, with hints of char and wood. Some hops towards the back-end.
F: Medium- to full-bodied. Creamy, silky mouthfeel with light carbonation. Very drinkable.
O: Very well-rounded imperial stout. Great flavor, not too many hops added in the end, and the mouthfeel is superior to most other iterations of the RIS. Aromas were the weak link. Adroit has many strong RIS iterations; add this to the list.

Can dated 3/15/22 into pint glass. Pours a very dark brown with a brief tan head. Initial impression is roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, and a hint of molasses. Mouthfeel is thick and rich. Alcohol is quite well hidden. Finish is slightly bitter, with coffee notes. Overall, an excellent RIS!

Poured from a 16oz can into pint glass in April 2022. There is a canned on date 3/15/2022, and purchased during my visit to their brewpub.
Appearance: Dark black with a dark tan/brown head. The head is 1-finger thick with very fine bubbles. It lasts for a few minutes and ends with a very thin tan head. There is only a little lacing sticking to the glass.
Smell: Strong aroma of coffee. Also some roasted malt and a hint of sweetness like chocolate. Overall the coffee dominate the others.
Taste: There is a nice balance between the roasted malts and coffee flavors. There are some chocolate and hop bitter flavors to enhance the taste and add some complexity. There is a strong alcohol presence, as with other Imperial Stouts, which matches the 12.0% on the label. Great aftertaste, which is also dominated by the coffee.
Mouth-feel: Thick, but with an extremely smooth and creamy body. Much more smooth than many other imperial stouts.
This is a very good imperial stout, and it has a variety of flavors that adds an impressive complexity to the beer. Although this is a big beer, it is smooth and very enjoyable to drink. The smoothness adds to the overall enjoyment. I will buy this again.
