Poured from a 16oz can into pint glass in August 2022. There was a "Canned On" date of 06/01/2022 on the bottom of the can, and the usual Adroit ghost number as well: 1220. I bought this at the brewery, and drank less than 2 months from purchase.
Appearance: Dark black color like a stout. Had a 1-finger dark tan head. The head is not too thick, and it lasted a few minutes, leaving a thin covering. There is only a small amount of lacing on the glass.
Smell: Malt aromas, as well as some hops, and some coffee aromas. The aromas were noticed as soon as the can was opened. Also, some fruity aromas. The malt and hop aromas are more prominent than the other aromas.
Taste: Smokey and malt flavors, as well as some bitter taste from the hops that is not overpowering. Also, some coffee and orange flavors. The sweetness and bitter edge are well-balanced. Has a very nice after-taste that lasts a moderate amount of time. Overall a nice balance and very drinkable.
Mouthfeel: Thick body. High alcohol, which matches the 10.5% listed.
This is a unique Black IPA. It has a nice mix of malt, hops, and other flavors, which makes it enjoyable. It is well-balanced, and the high alcohol is not overpowering. I like the overall balance, and would buy this again. The stamp on the bottom of the can said "Dark Exotic Ale" which it definitely was. Another very good beer from Adroit Theory.
