A brand new Stout with intense, complex flavors. Rich aromas of roastiness, date + prune fruit esters, and subtle undertones of alcohol. Bitterness is firm; notes of bittersweet chocolate, espresso coffee, and tar. Lingering warmth in the finish with moderate sweetness. A sipper that is black as night.
Canned on 12/22/22: This batch was meant to be Ghost 1306 (brewed for BeerAdvocate's Extreme Beer Box: BIG STOUTS), however, it's labeled as Ghost 1228. Mark at Adroit stated: "That's an error we didn't catch in proofing with the printer. One of the downsides of repeating an old label design."
Canned on 06/27/22: Is the original Ghost 1228 batch.

This is the Extreme Beer Box Big Stouts version (aka Ghost 1306). Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to sparse patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with light char, bakers chocolate, dates, molasses and espresso. Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate char, bakers chocolate, molasses, espresso coffee and well dried dark fruit. A little smokiness and a touch of bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid, dark and smoky imperial stout with lots of RIS character. A little thin in feel, but the malt is dense and well toasted enough to fit the style. Pleasantly smokey in the finish with great coffee and chocolate character. Big ABV well covered. A nice, full bodied Russian stout. I have to say, this Extreme Beer box wasn't all that extreme, but everything was very good to great with some really solid, rich stouts. A great experience.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear thick viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown + dark chestnut brown + dark amber colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense creamy sudsy foamy dark mocha head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted + dark + slightly charred + toasted + chocolate malts with moderate amounts of dark fruit (plum + prune + date) sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of tobacco + leather + dark roasted coffee + dark chocolate. Hints of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted + dark + slightly charred + toasted + chocolate malts with moderate amounts of dark fruit (plum + prune + date) sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of tobacco + leather + dark roasted coffee as well as moderate flavors of dark chocolate. Finally there are light flavors of earthy hops. Moderate amounts of lingering roasty + charred flavors.
M: Full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with moderate amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength (higher ABV) and smooth slightly warming mouthfeel. Enjoyable but definitely a slow sipper - lots of malt complexity and very much an old school RIS.

Apparently this is #10 of the ESB. This pours black. Very thin (less than a finger) of brown head on second pour that left a brown ring. First time, I didn't get any foam but plenty of fizz. This has a very smoky, sort of bitter taste. It is certainly different from the rest of the box with its strong sense of burned malts, tobacco, and leather. It's like being in a smoking room with sodden leather couches. Bitingly bitter - perhaps chocolate and coffee, and maybe a little dark fruit, but the wood char and malts swarm over it, leaving that strong bitterness in the end. Pretty dry finish, but smooth and hides the ABV well. As it warms, it ends up feeling more balanced without feeling like any less of a pure representation of the style.
I do enjoy it. Not my usual style, but it's good after you have adapted to bitterness. And yes, the artwork is fantastic. Come on baby, eat the rich!

Eat the Rich pours black, with a small, lacing, dark tan head. The aroma is weaker but hints of black licorice. The flavor is rich, with hints of root beer and black licorice. Good body and feel. A little sweeter, but strong, rich flavors.

Pour meets expectations - dark, nearly black but largely the deepest brown. Dense tan head that leaves a cap and ring. Some decent cling to the glass.
While I do enjoy my adjuncts, it's kinda nice to stick my nose in a glass and not be assaulted by peanut butter, vanilla, cinnamon, etc. This has about as straightforward a stout aroma as it gets. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, earthy. A minor dark fruity contribution, leaning towards prune.
The taste is equally straightforward. Lots of roastiness, coffee, chocolate all in the foreground. The intensity builds to the point of developing some char and woodiness, but doesn't cross over into nasty acrid-land. Dark, brown breadiness. Prune or maybe dried dark cherry. Definitely has the earthy thing going on. The chocolate actually lingers pleasantly on the lips. There's restrained bitter in the aftertaste and a little peppery licorice imparts a spicy tingle.
The feel may be a tad thin for an RIS. I get some warmth from the otherwise hidden alcohol. Dry, slightly astringent, a touch of chalkiness. Creamy and smooth. After a few bigger sips, the licorice becomes more peppery spicy.
Ok...overall, a straight up, excellently made Imperial Stout that is enjoyable to drink. Nothing seems out of the box to me - straightforward. While I "get it", not a fan of the label art, but that's got nothing to do with the beer.

16oz can. Bottom of can stamping is 'EAT THE RICH 12/22/22'.
Black colored body with thin mahogany brown back lit edge. One finger of brown head quickly makes a retreat to a thin ring and a few small islands. Lingering lacing spots slide back down into body.
Aroma is roasted chocolate malts, dark fruit, and alcohol.
Taste is dark roasted malts with chocolate fudge, some dark cherry and prune, coffee, vanilla, and alcohol. Dark roasted chocolate malts in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel, with a smooth texture. While the alcohol level is expressive there is very little tongue or mouth burn. Okay carbonation.
Beer has a rich expression but the nose and flavors are restrained.

L: Black with nice frothy head.
S: Wood, charcoal, leather
T: Sharp alcohol with some metallic, acidic bite. Leather notes too which were nice.
F: Creamy with medium carbonation.
O: This took a long time to figure out. I'd probably have to drink it again to keep going with it. I had trouble with what I perceived as a metallic taste and acidity. But then I loved the leathery and charcoal taste. A nice late-night sipper. I have to say this is the most interesting beer out of the Extreme Beer Box: BIG STOUTS (2023). Also, the artwork is completely bonkers and I loved all the detail on the label. All those pairing suggestions is cool. Appreciated the extra details on the coding, etc. too. I'd love to try more from Adroit Theory.

Appearance: Pours pitch black with a beige film that fades to a collar; speckles of lacing
Smell: Char and dark chocolate tones with hints of dried plum
Taste: The dried plum is much more prominent on the taste duds than in the aroma and provides a framing of the flavors from start to finish; underneath, there is a dark chocolate aspect that add depth and a chalky, char that adds some bitterness
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet
Overall: I like my Russian Imperial Stouts to have a dark fruit element so I am quite satisfied with this brew

poured from a 16oz can into a CW snifter. pours a fairly thick, dark black with a thin dark brown foam cap. molasses, dark fruits and a hint of chocolate on the nose and taste. maybe some roasted malts as well. thick, full mouthfeel. i was much more impressed with this than i thought i was going to be. excellent job of taking a non barrel-aged, no additive imperial stout and not making it boring. lots of delicious flavors and aromas going on here.

Pours black with a nice sudsy dark tan head. Beautiful impy stout. The nose has some roasty char, chocolate, and some stone fruit (dark cherries and plums). Very nice.
The taste is a nice balance split betwixt the roasty char, chocolate, dark cherries, and plums. This is SCARY easy to drink for a 12% ABV beer, because there’s zero alcohol present. As in none.
The mouthfeel is full and edges toward creamy. This is a big stout I’d regularly drink if I had access to it.

Just lovely, almost black, big brown head fades to a ring. Snot machine says roasted stuff, malts, coffee. Taste buds say there's some fruit back there, plum, maybe cherry, some chocolate on the back end. Thick, but not quite chewy. I certainly will look for this.
