This Russian Imperial Stout has intense aromas of roasted malt, alcohol + fruity esters of dates all competing for attention. Jet black in color; Flavors of coffee, dark chocolate + tar with a warming bite of alcohol. Velvety smooth, chewy, with a moderate sweet finish.

The pour is rather similar to a very clean used oil, but with a 4 mm brown head that left no lacing.
The taste is coffee (French Roast) forward, some dark chocolate, and a little dark fruit. Worn leather enters the frame, and it finishes with more French coffee, darned near bitterness.
The feel is lightly viscous, nice for the style.
OA, not as sweet as the other Adroit Theory stouts I’ve had the pleasure of trying, and I enjoyed it a lot.

Canned on: ??????
A - Pitch black pour with caramel lacing.
S - Chocolate and some chocolate char on the nose
T - Chocolate malt up front gains more roast character towards the end of the sip and especially afterwards, then throw some dates in the mix with a little bit of coffee beans and some mild char.
M - Thick and silky with carbonation fighting through the thickness.
O - Nice lingering roast. Solid.

Undated can. Stored at home at 40 degrees F. Served at 57.9 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 62.4 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), opaque.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, light penetrates at the edges, ruby.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.2 cm, aggressive center pour). Tuscan tan, high density, fading to brandy as it oxygenates. rapidly falling to a 0.25 cm crown and a thin, partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.5 – Dates, chocolate, weak smoke – actually smells a bit sweet.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins slightly sweet with dates, light smoke, and chocolate. No alcohol (12 % ABV, according to the label). No diacetyl or dimethylsulfide. Initial mild gastric warming, but this heats up over time. Ends slightly bitter.
Palate – 4 – Full: Creamy: Soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 4 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated can) Uncredited label artist – too bad because this label is quite intricate. The nose and following flavor are basic RIS – chocolate, dark fruit, hints of smoke – sweetness slowly turning bitter – just a damn good basic RIS.
