On tap at Off Color's Mousetrap where this young French-style saison was aged in one of its barolo foedres.
I spoke with a brewer who indicated this would not be bottled and was unlikely kegs would go anywhere other than Mousetrap. So if you want to sample this fresh, pleasant, dry saison, you have only a couple of weeks to go to one place.
Since I am not a fan of too tart saisons, my giving Printemps high marks is, I'd like to think, high praise. Quite blonde and mildly active protein, Looks are only slightly above average. Delicate Smells reminded me mostly of apple blossoms, but there is a barnyard funk in the back of my nose. Tastes are balanced, not sweet, not too tart; which requires skill relative to many of the competition who have jumped into the foedre process. Once the dryness is sorted out from the modest bubbles, my mouth recognizes how young Printemps is.
While probably not super-food friendly like many of Off Color's offerings, I still want to pair Printemps with some cheeses and appetizers. Conveniently, Whole Foods is next door.
I will look for what this batch evolves into. But there would be nothing wrong with releasing another Printemps next year as a one year celebration of Covid measures and vaccinations allowing taprooms to open again. A Votre Sante' !
