Drank Luminosa next to Daddy Apex. (Photo is on UnTappd under Apex.)
I have a history with the Predator Line. A unique history in that I've not enjoyed only one of the 19 brews I count in the Line. Of the four Juicy's, I added three of them in two months and am the only review for all four. Clearer to me now, the Juicy experiments seek to expand the Apex line, without necessarily using the same brewing process. OCB is looking for better variations learned from the flagship. At any rating, I don't mind being their guinea pig.
That statement above is partly based on reading the ingredients and "Secret Techniques" of Apex versus the "Secret Ingredients" of the Juicy sub-line. The variations are not large. For example, Luminosa is a different hop; but the malt bill adds flaked oats and sorghum (perhaps to replace Apex's honey malt.) The other major difference between these two is the yeast. But, I'd be silly to analyze something in which the masters at OCB know what they are doing and I do not.
But I will say this: Luminosa is a more successful experiment than the previous three Juicys... possibly because it was an uncharacteristic 97 degrees today and Luminosa provided an easy replenishment of fluids.
Tonight's meal was my standard test for summer fare: pesto on spinach ravioli. Apex won; but Luminosa was very effective at cutting thru the oils and soothing the salt. I just bought a 4-pack from Mousetrap. More to come.
8/25/23 It took only a day for me to try Luminosa again and it was with a lousy frozen pizza and the ale improved the meal better than many; meaning that Luminosa is a helpful addition to the Predator Line.
