16.9 ounce bottle poured into a tulip. It's the most recent bottling I believe. Pours a light copper with ruby red highlights. Soapy head that leaves large bubbled head around the inside perimeter. Candied orange, soft floral perfume. Taste is where it's at. Bright citrus, whiskey and wood, huge vanilla tones. As a certified Founder's homer, this beer reminds me of the barrels they use. The barrel doesn't overpower, but blends well with the base beer. Big drinkability too. Go buy this beer, it's great!

Had this on 2017-05-21 and again on 2019-05-22 in Columbia, PA from a 500 ml bottle
A - Lightly-hazy copper-orange with a short white head and light lace.
S - Spicy orange candy, oak, light rye whiskey, aged hop floral.
T - Sweet, rye whiskey forward, orange candy, fairly bready, earthy/grassy hop spice and light pepper. Finishes mildly-bitter with an orange-rind-soaked-in-whiskey flavor.
M - Medium-heavy body and light carbonation. Lightly syrupy at first and then it dries out pretty well.
O - This is a pleasant beer with a good feel. I think restraining the bitterness was a good choice; giving more emphasis to the malt, fruit and whiskey flavors. I enjoyed sipping half the bottle (250 ml) and am saving the rest for tomorrow so it qualifies as a sipper.

500ml brown bottle, sample from the brewery.
Thick three fingers of head on top of a clear copper colored brew. Smells of melon pith, wood, boozy rye, orange rind, fresh cut grass, white tea, and bread crust. Juicy and mildly pungent with some well rounded barrel aged character. While the hop bitterness might come off as restrained the hop character with well woven into this brew. Lots of barrel flavor, warming with a kiss of booziness. Hint of caramel and bread in the middle, more hop flavor and barrel action in the finish. Tasty all around, grounded with lots of layers.

500mL bottle from Hops & Vines (Asheville, NC). 8.99. Released 02/2017. Served on a Burial snifter.
Pours a lightly hazy amber with just under two fingers of off-white foam. The head settles to a marbled blanket and fluffy band that leaves some impressive lacing.
Rye and cereal grains kick off the aroma. Whiskey, wet earth and weathered wood round things out.
Tastes of softly sweet whiskey, dried seedy berries, bready grain, melon rind, vaguely spicy rye, wet wood, desweetened caramel and some deceptively faint nips of alcohol.
Pillowy medium body with mild carbonation. Restrained aftertaste of rye whiskey, earthy-spiced bread and caramel malts.
Burial brewed this one very malt forward,to the extent that I have a hard time accepting it as an IPA. Unassuming and dangerously easy to drink, Weathered Scythe has a smooth, almost English quality to it.

Appearance - Pours semi transparent copper color, not much head even with a very aggressive pour. Just dots of lacing around the glass.
Aroma - Getting lots of oak and earthy peat aromas, also rye whiskey. Hints of sweet caramel and malts. The alcohol is slightly present. Very mild tropical notes peaking through some orange and maybe mango.
Taste - Very smooth taste, mild flavors. Rye Whiskey, very earthy the caramel is a little more pronounced in the taste. There is no sign of the 9% alcohol
Feel - Surprising the light side of medium, very smooth and slightly slick feel.
Overall - I think is this s a really well done beer, dangerously smooth and the flavors while not very strong are smooth and well balanced.
