Out here we marvel in the chaos of the elements. Amidst the bloody war between the sky dominion and the sea beneath it. And we recognize we are the blood pumping through this living orb. A modern Westie, made with 100% barley and double dry-hopped with Strata, Simcoe, and Motueka

Canned 12/22/20.

L: Pours a deep cloudy orange. Non-fluffy head with tiny bubbles dissipates quickly. Irregular, but pretty, lacing.

S: Lemon/lime and tropical.

T: Soft early, with a bit of a kick late. Starts tropical, with a dry and slightly bitter finish.

F: Medium mouthfeel, well-balanced.

O: This "modern Westie" by definition lacks the piney big bitterness of a classic west coast IPA, but is an enjoyable combination of new school tropical softness and old school dry and just a bit bitter. Lacks the classic grapefruit/piney punch of the classic WCIPAs, but is more easily drinkable.

A: Pours a cloudy bright golden apricot in color with moderate to heavy amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate bright orange + bright yellow + peach colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense pillowy foamy bright white head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering a little more than 75% of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of tropical/mango + tropical/passionfruit + citrus/lime + herbal hops over the top of moderate aromas of biscuit + toasted + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of biscuit + toasted + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of tropical/mango + tropical/passionfruit + citrus/lime + herbal hops which impart light to moderate amounts of bitterness which does not linger for too long leaving a herbal hop flavor.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly refreshing mouthfeel. Enjoyable combination of hop flavors and aromas (tropical + herbal with a lighter amount of citrus) which are more of a modern WCIPA rather than the heavier grapefruit + pine I would expect from a more classic WCIPA - also not as biting/aggressive bitterness.
