epic beer, so thankful for the opportunity to try a glass, free tasting at the burial bottle shop now adjacent to their original brewery location, popped in there to load up for our rental house and they had a magnum bottle open and offered it up to me, so awesome. listed on this bottle at 14% abv, this is a beast of a stout, packed with unique flavor and also with unique texture, like actual one of a kind mouthfeel on this. done with toasted coconut, thai banana, cocoa butter which is real unique, and vanilla bean, just brilliant. i feel like thai banana really had a moment in beer a few years back, all the cool kid breweries were using them, but never to much of a heavy banana effect in flavor to me, but this one really does drink banana forward, sort of plantain starchy, green banana rather than mushy ripe yellow, but its a cool fresh aroma and flavor in an otherwise abyssally dark brew, it serves to kind of lighten it some, add some tropical fruitiness that sets the coconut up masterfully, and generally add some cool sensory interest, they got more from this ingredient than most others did, at least in my experience. very close to black on the pour, leggy and viscous but also with a bit of carbonation and head too which keeps it moving just enough, not super boozy to my nose or palate either, despite the strength. the toasted coconut is sweet and heavy, adds a lot to this, all through the nose, first and last thing i taste, pulls roast and coffee notes from the dark barley, brings a sort of caramelized richness too, tropical and sexy, super nice. the cocoa butter is the real original part i think, it adds palpable fattiness to the mouthfeel of this, right past the flavor climax peaking with coconut and vanilla and roasted depth, its past creamy to straight up buttery, they must have used a lot of it, its silky and creamed out and so interesting with all the body here, wow. it has cool flavor too, earthy chocolate essence, plays incredibly well with the other elements, especially the vanilla, which isnt overdone, and is floral and sweet in this, pops in and out among the other elements, banana first, coconut next, the chocolate and espresso layers last, very nice. the slickness and almost greasiness this has from the cocoa butter are amazing, they extent an already long beer, a total experience this one, desserty but not diabetic, nutty and molasses type nuances in the middle, neat banana recall on the aftertaste, german chocolate cake decadence with the coconut as forward as it is, and all of it comes together so well. mouthfeel for the ages, lucky score for me, gnarly art on this as always from these guys, incredible beer, wow, burial absolutely rules!

Toasted coconut, Thai banana, cocoa butter, and vanilla beans. Burial be doin' thangs. Definitely a dessert, fairly sweet, a little green on the bananas but a nice expression of the stated concept.
