cool name for a porter, great porter, one of the more straight ahead burial beers ive had recently, but very well executed of course. black and beautiful from the tap, full inch of airy tan head crowns it perfectly, pretty high shine and quite obviously well refined. the nose on this is robust, really bold for its modest abv for sure, layers of dark grain teasing high end espresso, campfire, and bitter baking chocolate, some sweeter middle malts are here too, light toffee and graham cracker and a nutty autumnal almost acorn sort of thing, light char, dark hearth bread, some compatible hops too, more complex and sturdy than anticipated. its not quite as intensely dark to drink as it smells, more balance, an uplifting citrus note from the hops, rounded out crystal malt richness without ever presenting as sweet, layers of cocoa, espresso crema, and even old wood, lots of depth to this, some hop bitterness late too, subtle fermentation character but not quite english to me, smooth and with some length, hearty but not filling, dynamic. remarkable its as low alcohol as it is, a very complex porter, excellent take on the style overall, a little more going on here than in most but its not overdone either. i liked every single beer i had from burial while we were in asheville this time, these guys do so many things so well! very impressive operation top to bottom. loved this one with my shrimp and grits at the forestry camp location!

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sticky patches of lace. It smelled of roasted malt, chocolate, toffee and sweet caramel. Tasted of chocolate, roasted malt, toffee and caramel.

On tap at WECO beer garden.
Opaque ebony, scant edge carbonation, no lacing to speak of.
Coffee, nut, chocolate, orange pith aromas
Big chocolate, coffee, roast flavors up front. Bitter aftertaste and developing fruit notes on the tongue.
Medium bodied, low carbonation.
From the photos on Untappd there should have been more head, which would have upped my rating. Exceptional porter.

Look: Pours a gorgeous, dark, almost completely black shade of dark chocolate with a one finger, off-beige, dense head of foam. Laces the glass very well.
Aroma: Tamarind, toasted coconut, fudge, multi-grain bread. Coffee.
Taste: Italian chocolate shaved ice / gelato. Slight peppery toasted grain / pumpernickel bread kick. Bitter upfront, but slowly goes sweet with flavors of chocolate saltwater taffy and a touch of breakfast roast coffee.
Feel: Silky and rich. Bittersweet.
Overall: Exceptionally good - one of the best porters I've had in recent memory. Yep; it's 5's across the board from me dawg.

Pours a rich deep brown with some red around the edges, small light brown head falls fast some spotted lace left behind.
Aroma is chocolate, caramel, bready light sweetness, orange peel bitters.
Taste is toasted malts, caramel, chocolate dominating toasted bready , light coffee hints underneath with a descent citrus hop bite in the finish. Smooth nice tasting porter.
Mouthfeel is medium with smooth carbonation.
Overall a tasty brew that I would have again.

Undated 12 oz bottle ($3.49).
Appearance. Dark reddish-brown body looks nearly black in my glass but with attractive ruby colored edges. Disappointing weak beige head.
This is a clean, relatively sweet (i.e., less bitter) American Porter with a harmonious spicy hop note.

Good looking beer, deep darkest of browns; light brown head dense and frothy, leaves a nice cap.
Nose gets a really pleasant and vibrant chocolate, somewhere between dark and milk, some darkened toast character, underlying there is a balanced but noticeable hop presence, citrus skin; somewhere between orange and grapefruit, but leans towards the latter.
Taste shows a great balance between dark roasty malts and old school American hops; hops again come off as grapefruit like, malt is delicate yet boldens as the sip goes down, comes off lighter than it looks at first before diving into burnt toast, roasted malt, and then finishes with a kiss of light espresso; this all melds so well with the hops.
Just at the start of medium body for me; smooth and creamy carbonation, very clean with high drinkability, moderate but tame bitterness.
