Imperial stout with Thai banana, cinnamon, allspice, pineapple, orange peel, dulce de leche, Amburana wood, red bean, toasted black sesame, and 3 types of vanilla bean for 12th Anniversary.

They just slipped away. One by one. Through the weathered cracks of time. Each with their own unique faces. And stories to tell. A dozen isn't many. Unless you've watched each one unravel slowly. So we offer you this Imperial Stout, conditioned on twelve different ingredients to commemorate each year of our existence. The result is a complex, yet surprisingly succinct melange of cacao daiquiri, frozen allspice dram banana stand, and caramel-soaked cola.

There are companies that market their brands with words of wisdom, gratitude of some other uplifting message. Burial isn't one of those. With names like The Obituary of a Dozen Passings, we probably shouldn't let them write for the fortune cookie companies any time soon.

Foggy black and not quite completely opaque, the tawny black beer struggles with froth before falling flat. But its sweet and spicy scent is anything but, luring the nose with a decadent scent of chocolate, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, licorice and cinnamon. Nearly pastry-like in its scent, the taste follows suit with a cake batter consistency of chocolate, brownie, vanilla, molasses, brown sugar and sorghum. As dark roast coffee, nuttiness and sweet smoke carry an almost-mesquite character through the middle palate, a balance of spice comes with a cinnamon leading blend of holiday spice, with a light woodsy hoppiness to close.

Full bodied, chewy and slighlty cloying on the palate, the session is very much a dessert one rending the bottle to be shared a few ounces at a time. Where it may be difficult to drink, it's quite easy to taste.

Tap at Burial. Poured a jet-black color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sticky lacing on the glass. It smelled of spices, cinnamon, chocolate, toffee and citrus. Sweet chocolate and toffee taste with vanilla, cinnamon, orange and toffee.
