Canned 10/06/25 DOBBY IS NOW A FREE ELF, into a wide wine glass.
Pours a hazy dark yellow, very nice fluffy white foam with good lacing. Aroma is spicy grapefruit and melon, tons of cantaloupe. Flavor is similar, a really intense, creamy melon bomb. It's primarily just the sweet, soft melon, but there's a bitterness on the finish that's ever so vague. Still, it's quite tropical and slightly sweet. There's a good passionfruit character that arises as I sip which pairs well with the creamy melon and light citrus ideas, but still very low bitterness. Additionally, I'm tasting some malt sweetness and cream with these fruit flavors on the finish that I really enjoy. Feel is great, incredibly soft amd smooth like the last beer I drank, but much more contained at 7%. ABV is unnoticeable and it's a beautifully easy drinker. Body is medium, but it doesn't feel like a chore; there's enough complexity and chewiness to sip but also enough refreshment to get through quickly.
Overall, just what I wanted from Burial. With new-school WCIPAs, a hop bill can't tell you what a beer will be any more, and I was hoping this one would be hazy. Imagine my surprise and delight when it turned out to be a wonderfully soft, creamy, fruity NEIPA with plenty of complexity, in the Burial tradition. Definitely one of their best new recipes.
