Imperial Stout with Roasted Fig coated in Cinnamon Powder, Pistachio, Rose Petal, Dulce De Leche, Madagascar Vanilla, and Burial Unstill and Griddle Coffee
The weight of every choice presses down. Like a tide we invited in. The slow surrender to the gravity of habits we cannot shake. Maybe we're unwilling to. Forever the architect behind the collapse. This double mashed Imperial Stout was rested upon Cinnamon-coated Turkish Figs, Pistachio, Dulce De Leche, Madagascar Vanilla Beans, Burial Unstill and Griddle Coffees, and Rose Petal. Bringing your holiday table notes of chocolate fig spice cake with frangipane cream filling and coated in espresso buttercream icing.

500ml bottle received as a Christmas gift December 2025 that has been in my cellar since.
Poured into a Treehouse Teku glass.
Look: "Oh yeah." That's literally what I calmly said as this began pouring into the glass. There was a hint of burnt amber color but this is mostly dark. Miniscule carbonation, just barely there. A memory of carbonation. I really am going to have to get a new light just to test Burial stouts. Nothing was getting through this. Swirling doesn't do much for the carbonation, but this beer does stain the glass a bit so there's that. This is dark as night. Hey the second pour was a bit more aggressive and I could actually hear the bubbles. They were very short lived and dissipated as fast as they arrived, but they were there.
Aroma: Right up front is the coffee for me. Coffee up front, chocolate in the background. No cinnamon to speak of, or rose for that matter. Okay maybe the rose is there, but not the cinnamon or pistachio. Perhaps that will be more present in the taste. However being at least a few months old the coffee has really held up well. This is a very nice smelling beer. I just realized that I've been really huffing this beer trying to find some of the different scents and forgot that this is 14%. There is no heat to be found. Seems like this one might be dangerous. I feel like I'm almost getting coconut in the mix. Like a Mounds or an Almond Joy, maybe the taste will be like a pistachio joy. One way to find out.
Taste: Yes actually! Wow. The explosion of flavors right off the bat is amazing. Definitely felt like it was a liquid form Mounds bar, heavily coated in dark chocolate but not bitter, just strong. No cinnamon. No pistachio. Chocolate, rose, coconut, fudge, no burn. Complex, well balanced. I can't believe this is 14%. I'm practically gulping this.
Mouth: Oh my! This is thick. It's so damn good. I love how balanced it is. It's creamy, it's viscous. It hits a homerun in this department. I usually don't really know what to say about mouthfeel but this is exceptional. This is an easy 5 in this category. I usually write all of my notes, then input scores. Not here. Obvious 5.
Overall: I truly do love Burial beers, especially their stouts. They get creative and sometimes it seems like they just toss everything in and see what sticks, like kitchen sink stouts. Maybe though it's more like a witch's cauldron and they're making potions. Each one is unique, yet distinctly Burial. This is yet another fantastic offering. The coffee aroma held up really well, the mélange of flavors was like a bolt of lightning, the mouthfeel is exquisite...what's not to love? Drowning in Misery? No, drowning in love. Would definitely drink this again and would 100% buy it. If you like complex, unique, and possibly unhinged stouts then you should too. It's so hard to drink run of the mill stouts: bitter, overly carbonated, astringent offerings after getting my fill of some Burial. I should plan another trip to NC soon.
