exquisite and absurd, way up there with the best burial beers ive ever had, which is saying a ton, blend of vinatges, nothing oud bruin about it despite what they proclaim, but epic nevertheless, wow! from the bottle on the tour of their way cool forestry camp location, equal parts raspberries and blackberries, less malt than anyone would expect from an oud bruin, and not into the vinegar acidity type despite the high pucker and jawline sourness, amazing beer really here, pure blood red, bright looking, without the brown the base style usually comes with, its colored by fruit not by grain, and its gorgeous, short head but enough carbonation. mouthwatering nose of fresh fruit, red wine, lactic and lemony tang, some subtle funk, and less grain overall, but i am letting that go immediately, ripe berries of the highest order, tons of them, almost juice, oak tannins and some sharpness from the ferment, smells young and fresh rather than old and mellow, but well blended to favor the fruit, which could not be more real, strawberry sweetness, cranberry sour, so fruity and intense in a good way. neat to learn they do primary fermentation in barrels and then do the fruit in stainless after, and cool that they do a quick fruit ferment before beer is added, lots of intentionally all over this, it shows. the flavor is brilliantly fruit forward, i think just a bit more raspberry than blackberry leaning, but both are juicy and up front, amazing, tantalizing. cool wood and funk, more acid than wild, but its complex, vinous, and the way they built the fruit in is masterful, fully. medium to lighter bodied, increasingly sour as it warms and maybe off putting to some, but well blended i think maybe with some real sour older stock, epic fruit, thats what this is about and it delivers. burial was once again incredible in this trip to asheville, foresty camp spot rules, their beer is still elite across a ton of styles, and this is way up there with the best stuff they do. insane fruit intensity and killer ferment, sensational!
