Can: Poured a black color porter with a brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some floral coffee notes is enjoyable. Taste is a mix of dry roasted malt notes with some dry floral coffee notes. Body is a bit thin with good carbonation. Not bad but nothing to write home about.

Pours dark brown - although a little thinner & lighter looking than I'd like - with a tall frothy mocha head which dissipates slowly; leaves decent lacing. Aroma of coffee, sweet roasted malts & a hint of vanilla. The taste is of dark roasted malts with additions of light coffee & just hints of chocolate and vanilla. Both the taste and mouthfeel are too watery for my liking and the creaminess I's normally like to feel in a porter is just not there. An ok porter, but not one I will seek out again.

Pours nearly pure black with a big, rocky, tan head that lasts a good while. Bitter espresso coffee, tobacco and some hop bitterness in the nose. Coarse Robusta coffee dominates in the taste with maple syrup, dark chocolate and estery british yeast flavors in the back. The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with a prickly, light carbonation. Strong bitter coffee flavor and light hop bitterness in the finish.

A bit overpowered by coffee and not the greatest coffee flavor. Good, but not worth seeking out.

Got this one from hopsolutely this past summer

From a 500ml bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Slow foamer upon opening. A careful pour comes out clear brown and yields a three finger, looser, foamy, light tan head with decent retention. Clear bistre brown body with higher levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a foamy cap and leaves lots of lacing down the glass. Foamy and over carbonated.

SMELL: The coffee comes across stale, initially. Green peas and some light metallic notes. There some sweet cream in there as well, but this is mostly peas and metal. Not very appealing.

TASTE: Stale coffee with lots of green peas up front. Notes of caramel and cream come through at the swallow with a medium finish of cream, caramel, peas and stale coffee. It’s slightly tart as well. Pretty lousy.

PALATE: Thin body and insane levels of carbonation. Airy and foamy on the palate, goes down foamy and finishes a touch dry. Thin and light with piles of carbonation and foam. Pretty bad.

OVERALL: This was lousy. Gross flavors and poorly executed. Tasted like stale coffee and green peas, while the feel was thin, foamy and way over carbonated. Drain got most of this one. Another bad Forked River beer.

500 ml bottle served at cellar temperature into a Sam Smiths pint glass. Cost was about $3.50 CDN.

Appearance - pours a very dark brown color with a thick two finger tan head and excellent retention. Some sediment pitted out into the glass as well and some sparse lacing left behind.

Smell - lots of coffee notes and hard to tell much of anything beyond that.

Taste - lots of coffee flavor, middling bitterness, the coffee flavor didn't extend into the aftertaste as much as I had hoped.

Mouthfeel - smooth and creamy at first but a bit thin, doesn't have the lasting stickiness that many a porter have and after a few sips the body seems more watery as you go.

Overall - certainly not a bad porter, but the coffee flavours and aromas were less intense than expected and the body had a certain thinness that makes me think I won't have this one again.

Nose is pure coffee with not much else.

Palate is pure coffee like the Bose suggested. One dimensional

Body is thin even for the lower ABV.

500ml bottle into snifter. no freshness info on the bottle. 5.6% abv. purchased sep 24 2015 at the LCBO, consumed oct 6 2015

a: pours dark brown then develops into a near-pitch black (dark brown/chestnut around the edges). topped with nice light brown head

s: can smell the malt when the glass is far from the nose. this thing is just loaded with coffee. notes of espresso, toasted bread & nuts (roasted malt), char, and maybe a hint of spicy rye bread. a touch of syrup too? very coffee-dominant

t: really rich dark roast coffee up front, akin to espresso. these flavours dominate the palate all the way through. there are also notes of caramel, toasted bread, deep cocoa, and char in and out of the coffee onslaught. finishes quite bitter like a black coffee

m: a light-to-medium-bodied liquid with light-to-medium carbonation. slightly creamy. has a really dry finish

o: what impresses me is how this beer is so far from sweet. i do like sweet beers, but i'm also liking how the beer emulates black coffee characteristics without being too beer-y (sweet & malty). an amazing beer that is loaded with coffee flavour from start to finish, and dries the palate incredibly well. don't sleep on this if you're a coffee (beer) fan!

two good fingers dark tan head. black and unfiltered. looks serious and distinguished.

as advertised lots of rich coffee aromas, black liquorice, roasted malts, dried grasses,

sweet roasted malts on taste, acidic dark roast coffee, molasses, bitter from the hops, earthy, char.

not heavy on the body but still very flavour forward. light on the tongue and carbonated though smooth.

overall very nice with plenty of coffee and roasted malt character. hops are played up in a way that would have done well with a bit more malt sweetness. a bit ashy.
