473 mL can from the brewery; dated Nov 6 2017 and served well chilled. Reviewed on my phone.
Pours a clear golden blonde hue, capped off with one finger of loose, fizzy white head that vanishes within thirty seconds or so. A few cirrus cloud-like wisps are all that remains. The aroma is muted and unspectacular - all I'm getting are some gritty pale malts, grain husk and light sourness with a touch of funk. The pineapple is detectable, but not as noticeable as I'd hoped.
Odd yet interesting flavor. Grainy pale malts are a constant background presence, but the profile is otherwise inundated with a mixture of sour fruitiness that immediately takes center stage. I'm getting a lot of what I presume to be lactic acidity, paired with hints of juicy, soured pineapple purée. There's also some lemony, citric qualities, with the tart finish preceding a mildly funky aftertaste that lingers for a few moments. Light-bodied, with strong carbonation that produces a good, crisp bite, making this light brew quite easy to knock back, as well as highly refreshing to do so.
Final Grade: 3.48, a B-. Monsieur Ananas is a decent kettle sour that I don't feel too strongly about one way or another. The sourness is just about right IMO, and I do enjoy the tart finish - I just found the pineapple to be a bit too restrained. I'd pick it up again to see if the recipe evolves any, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to seek.
