Courtesy of my German flatmate Diddie who brought this beer from her hometown Stuttgart. Coming in a 500ml swing-cap brown bottle, unfiltered (or bottle-conditioned?!). BB FEB 07, served chilled in a pilsner glass.
A: dark yellow in colour, coming with an effervescent, fluffy white beer head with good retention; moderate and constant carbonation. Looking nice.
S: a mild flow of lovely grainy, slightly sugar-cane juice-like, and water-biscuity aroma fills the nostrils~~ backed by a mild lemony sour-sweetness and floral hops in line with German tradition of pils.
T: bitter-sweet hoppyness and crushed water-biscuits come hand in hand upfront, gradually a tangy citric fruitiness and dryish, semi-toasted grains join the chorus... the second part of the palate turns increasingly dry, with more chewy and bittering hops rubbing the sides and rear of the tongue. The depth and length of hops add to the pleasure of the fore-taste... If taking out the word "Keller", this beer is firmly in the tradition of high quality German Pils, if slightly richer in texture~~
M&D: fresh, micro-scopic fizziness caresses the tongue, added with a tremendous and ever-lasting aftertaste rendered by a good body of German hops--making this an utterly quaffable beer! The mouthfeel benefits from the unfiltering, thus richer and slightly more bitter-yeasty than the kristal-klar pilsners at the same strength. This is a rather different keller bier than those tasted before, perhaps because this is a Keller "Pils" rather than the more amber-ish counterparts--but the result is truly satisfying. My whole-hearted gratitude goes to my lovely friend, Diddie!!
