on tap at bainbridge barrel house - served in snifter

Pours a hazed golden color with a thick froth of white head. Dissolves slowly, leaving patches of lacing on the glass. Worth noting that this (like other FB berliners) poured insanely foamy, taking an extremely long time to settle down into a full glass.

Juicy, fragrant tropical pineapple nose with tartness. Slightly funky, straw and grain, fruit sweetness.

Absolutely pineapple explosion! Wonderful marriage between sour, tart fruits and juicy pineapple with other tropical tones. Mild backbone with soft yeasty funk and grain. Finishes sweet and tart with more pineapple.

Lighter medium body, higher carbonation, bubbly and lasting on the tongue. Another expressive, intense beer from Funky Buddha which delivers exactly what the name promises. I had two full pours and could've easily enjoyed another.

On tap at the Peg’s Berliner Bash. Served in a mini snifter. Pours a nice golden color with a bit of a head. Nose has pineapple and a slight bit of cheesiness in the background. Flavor has tropical pineapple character plus light wheat and a touch of acidity from the base plus a bit of pineapple acidity. Light body. Good, not great.

Had during the 2nd Annual Redneck Racin’ & Tastin’ while tailgating at the dirt track race! Big thanks goes out to BRoss242 for this one! This one won BRoss242 the trophy for the best brew shared during the tasting! Congrats man! Served from growler into a NoDa snifter. Poured a hazy whitish yellow with a half finger pure white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, pineapple, tart, sour, and earth. The flavor was of sweet malt, pineapple, sour, and tart. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was quite a good brew. This one definitely got my vote as the best brew of the day as it was really well balanced and all the components in this one worked really well together. The pineapple was definitely the star of this one. With a nice touch of sour and tart going on as well, this one was a no-brainer. An absolute must try by any means necessary.

On-tap at Berliner Bash.

A - Pours a sunny golden color, white head, thin collar.

S - Pineapple and tartness, straightforward, and refreshing. There doesn't need to be much else here, perhaps some wheat notes in there too, but the fruit and base beer are all you really need.

T - More of the same as the nose. Sweet fresh pineapple and a nice refreshing tartness. Like drinking a light fruit juice. Finish is sweet fruity tartness.

M - Light body, refreshing, crisp, dry tart finish.

O - Another excellent fruit Berliner from FB. I didn't like this one as much as the Key Lime, but it was still damn good and perfect for the day. Great stuff.

On tap at Capone's during PBW. So glad I was able to try this one.

The beer pours a fairly light gold color with white flecks. Lacing is fairly light, but otherwise the beer displayed good retention. The nose is flat out amazing. The beer really smells like a fine, well made berliner weisse (lots of bread dough and tartness), but I also picked up pineapple, orange citrus, butter and light vanilla. On the palate, this beer really shines, and is again, all berliner weisse. The blend of light tartness, pineapple, orange citrus and vanilla is just wonderful in combination, and I've love to be able to drink this on a regular basis. Mouthfeel is fairly light, but there's a creamy component to this beer, that put me in mind of an orange vanilla ice cream popsickle. The finish is very long, and the beer is delightfully refreshing. Really hard not to just gulp this one, that's how delicious it is. The light tartness at the end is the perfect finish in this beer.

Just stunning... a complete tour de force by Funky Buddha. Just an amazing beer...

Served on-tap into a 5.5 oz snifter at Capone's. Funky Buddha event for Philly Beer Week.

A: Fairly hazy light yellow body with no head when the glass got to me. From the tap, it was foaming like crazy though. No lace and only a thin ring around the edges.

S: Big fresh pineapple juice, pureed pineapple meat, almost like a milky tartness to this as well. Plenty of wheat and pale malts are here, too.

T: A wash of fresh pineapple and pineapple juice coat the palate along with the crisp tartness of a Berliner to back it up. I think the fruit in and of itself gives a boost to the sour/tartness of a traditional Berliner. Simply outstanding. Wheaty in the finish.

M: Highly carbonated, bubbly and prickly all over the palate like the style calls for. The tartness sucks the moisture from your mouth leaving a bit of a dry finish.

Absolutely excellent stuff. I am really enjoying these Berliner Weisse beers brewed with fruit rather than adding sugary syrups to the beer. If you like pineapple, this is a must try.

A-cloudy light yellow color with a small, but frothy white head which dissipates with little lacing

S-pineapple and a slight sour yeasty aroma

T-tart pineapple with a background of light yeasty notes

F-light body and light to moderate carbonation with a nice crisp feel

O-a nice variant of this style that would make an excellent summer beer, would love to try the other variations

On tap at the Funky Buddha event at Capones on Saturday June 2nd, a day that will live in infamy as I shattered my old record for a singl day bar bill at Capones.

A - Well, what can I say, it looked like straight up Pineapple juice in a glass. Pronounced yellow color with a bit of haze and no real apparent head on top.

S - Consistent with the style, a lactic layer along with the pineapple. Nice combination working here for sure.

T - Certainly a stand out and great representation for the style. The yeast, sour, and pineapple all combine to make this a wonderful treat. The pineapple does not make it overly sweet, with a nice bite being present from the acid. Sour pineapple never tasted so well and I can say I don't recall ever having this combo before. Shows that there is a array of possible flavoring options for the style beyond just raspberry. A perfect summer beer, refreshing and tart.

M - Very crisp, tart, and nice.

O - My second favorite of the lot. They show great craft here for the style. A definite winner for FB and a great beer to have on a nice summer day. Bravo!

On Tap at Capone's in SEPA for beer week 2012, two 5oz snifters for best effect. This took a while to get, 1st off it was a madhouse in there, 2nd, there was a ton of foam coming off the tap. I guess these kegs need a lot of time to chill from off the truck, these must have just been delivered.

The beer is very pale yellow in color, not looking like a coors or anything, Pineapple Berliner haze some haze to it with some white foam on top. No stick to the glass though. Smell is straight up pineapple. It comes through so clear and pronounced it's nothing short of amazing. Some lactic scent comes up with yogrut and mild wheat scent. It's all about the pineapple. Taste starts where the smell ends, PINEAPPLE. That's about it, besides the Berliner base which is top notch with lactic sourness to the max, light wheat notes and more pineapple at the end. In the end this comes off as sour pineapple juice which is just fine with me. Top notch stuff.

First had: on tap at Capone's, Norristown, PA

Poured a cloudy banana yellow with a ringlet of white bubbles for a head--this had to calm down a bit from the huge frothy mound that came out of the tap into the serving pitcher. Nose is fresh pineapple pulp, lactic, with a bit of Belgian sugar. Taste much full-blown pineapple juice up front, pineapple-dominant throughout the session, with [far] lesser notes of mildly funk yeast, candi sugar, and citrus. But as promised, pineapple is clearly in charge here, and in a good way. Nice and sour. Light-medium body, juicy, fresh, crisp, lovely. Great beer.
