Where many civilizations have written off the rye grain for anything beer or food related- not the Germans. Those who celebrate the temperamental grain in all its grit, spice and glory. Not to be deterred, the Blue Stallion team stay true to their German brewing roots with a rye beer that doesn't back down.
Deep amber and appearing brown through the center, the ale caps with a slightly tarnished foam cap. Spicy grains, toast, honey and nuttiness comes through in a modestly robust scent. Its taste is sweet and caramelized on the tongue with roasted pecan, honey, bread and cracker jacks candy joining the show.
As the sweetness slightly retreats, the unique German flavors of clove and banana play like weissbier on the middle palate while the spiciness of rye offers its husken, grainy earthy sweet remnants. Toasty like dunkel bier, the ale closes with a light clove and peppercorn finish.
Mild in bitterness, the beer's grain sweetness offers more earth, husk and bite as the sweet honey malts continue to fade, allowing the zing of peppercorn, minty hops and playful rosy alcohol to command the semi-sweet finish. A fantastic complement to many German sausage, bread and fermented foods.
