Inspired by and brewed in conjunction with a local homebrewer, Blue Stallion gets out of their classic style comfort zone and take a pilsner recipe to the hop side.
Never knowing which tastebuds to satisfy, Confusion ensues with a standard hazy, light golden pour. A firm white cap draws in the hop head in all of us with dry citrus, grasses and pine while a crisp sweetness of honeysuckle and fresh baked bread graze the tongue with a decidedly pilsner introduction.
But anything that resembles pilsner is tossed by the wayside of the middle palate. Highly favoring hops, the flavors explode with pink grapefruit, orange peel, lemon and honeydew. Crisp and drying, the late palate comes quick as the fruit flavors turn to a version of peels, pith and rind with the bitterness of verbena, chive and fresh glass clippings.
Think of it as a light bodied, dry IPA that goes past the point of West Coast hop recipes and further into the pilsner-esque world of Northern German lager. Bitter but cleanly so, the finish extends with a peppery, gripping bite on the gullet that's remiss of pine resins and green tea.
