Our 4th anniversary beer. Imperial stout aged in Willett Bourbon barrels and then infused with cocoa nibs and a hint of orange peel.

On draft at Side Project Cellars, poured 5 oz in a snifter glass.

A: Brown-black, no head.

S: Chocolate, caramel, vanilla from the oak.

T: Primarily chocolate and vanilla. The orange peel is subtle, wonder if this was more pronounced at the time it was initially brewed in 2017 and has since faded.

M: Smooth and creamy. Not as big in body or concentration as other barrel-aged stouts.

O: Great effort for a barrel-aged stout, with more drinkability than others that make it hard to drink anything else afterwards.

On tap at The Cellar. Outstanding imperial stout. Coconut from the barrel, then chocolate and orange. I wasn't expected imperial stouts on tap in the summer, but glad to have had this one.

5oz draft pour. pitch black. zero head. maybe 5 or 6 tiny bubbles. it’s so shiny i think i might be able to see my reflection in it. smells of chocolate bourbon candy. slightest hint of orange citrus but it’s very subtle. taste is extremely chocolate forward. it’s a very natural cocoa powder flavor though. nice whiskey barrel on the finish. again, the slightest of citrus on the finish. mouthfeel is thick with an obviously low carbonation. overall, don’t be fooled by the orange peel. it’s almost nonexistent. smooth chocolate bourbon bomb.

Black in color. No head.

Thick stout. Lots of chocolate and fudge. The orange really isn’t found. Nice bourbon flavors. Oaky. Really thick and full bodied. Low carb/still. Very awesome.

From Anniversary party 11/11/17. Poured at the Brewery. $9 for 5 oz. pour(Can't remember if previous years were $8 or $10, so don't know if this was a price increase or decrease) Served still, looks black as night. Big alcohol legs appear to stain the glass a slight brownish hue when swirled. Smell was a bit disappointing when compared to other Candles. Light chocolate notes, but you have to work the nasal passages to get it. The chocolate is more prevalent when consumed, but I was really expecting more, as it was one of the added flavors. Slight chocolate finish on the palate as well. I did not pick up on any orange. Overall, I've been lucky enough to have all 5 of the Candle iterations, and this was my least favorite. An amazing beer no doubt, but when compared to other Candles, is a bit of a let down. I can say this with the satisfaction of enjoying 2 and 3 Candles earlier in the day.
