This 2018 Double Barrel Derivation blend was aged in Willett bourbon barrels for 16 months before being racked to a VSOP Cognac barrel and finished for 8 months before release.

Pour shared on 12-16-18 at Side Project Brewery 2nd Anniversary party. Pours pitch black with nada carb. Sweet and succulent smell. The flavor is sweet, but not overly so, with a fading to the palate that finishes with a hint of a brandy note. Different flavor than the "OG DBD" as the VSOP influence is recognizable. Outstanding.

poured from a 750mL black-waxed bottle into a stemmed bulb glass. thick, sludgy black pour with virtually no foam to speak of. i am loving the nose on this one. it’s a lot of barrel and booze but the cognac barrels add a fruity sweetness to the chocolaty base beer and the vanilla and coconut notes of the bourbon barrels. thick, full mouthfeel but it’s been my (limited) experience that the double barrel derivations tend to be a little thinner than other derivations i’ve tried. i really enjoyed this one though. especially compared to OG DBD and the tawny port DBD. solid stuff.
