This is the Base Imperial Stout for the 2019 Maplewood Coffee Crawl. This year, it is a blend of Barrels 127 & 128, which is one of our Imperial Stout recipes that is used to create our various Derivation blends and Beer : Barrel : Time. It is brewed with 7 different malts and fermented with a blend of yeast strains and was aged in Rittenhouse Rye Barrels for 18 months before being used for this project.

sampled from one of two 5oz draft pours at the SP / Sump STLCBW “educational event.” appearance is pitch black with a few mocha swirls in the middle of the glass. minimal bubbles. smells of chocolate brownies with a slight rye whiskey aromas. barrel is not in your face but is definitely there. taste is similar with tons of chocolate accompanied by whiskey and a slight roast. feel is full and low carb. not the thickest of SP stouts but probably a little better than the last few derivations (D9-D11). overall, glad to have tried this as i missed the coffee crawl this year and it’s also fun to try a single stout thread / recipe on its own without it being blended with another recipe or two.
