I really needed to be taken into the stratosphere with this one... I was not. Hefty price tag that does not deliver. I’m not sure if it’s just a local thing or if it’s a bigger movement in brewing but this year I’ve been noticing a lot of neipa style beer coming out that looks and smells right but doesn’t deliver on flavor. Even beers that have been around for a while that seem to be losing their juiciness. Catamaran looks and smells like an neipa but that’s about it. Overwhelming unpleasant orange peel dominates the palate along with bitter hop astringency. There might be other stuff going on here but this beer is way too dry for any other flavors to come through. Maybe I’m wrong and this really is where hazy ipa’s are headed and if that’s the case count me out. I need to go drink a Psuedo Sue now so I don’t have nightmares about bitter orange peels coming to get me.
