For this iteration of Coffee Shop Vibes, we finally got to do something that we have been wanting to do for quite some time - explore the summer varietals available to us through Scott at Sump Coffee. We have historically brewed and blended Coffee Shop Vibes in the cooler months, leading to a consistent and similar lineup of coffees for us to cup. By reintroducing this beer this summer, we could cup a whole new plethora of coffees and also showcase this bean in two forms - straight up in Coffee Shop Vibes and also enhanced in Morning Vibes. We chose La Virgen Colombian after cupping almost everything that Scott had available at the time. We wanted you to be able to enjoy this coffee in both beers, to better experience them and how they interact with our usage of barrel-aged maple syrup in Morning Vibes. We also believe that our treatment of these beans and our new processes will hold the bean together the best and will provide for a great and true coffee expression for an appropriate amount of time. We hope and believe you will understand why we wanted to do this beer again this year, with the seasonal crop we were fortunate enough to cup!

Pours black with two and a half fingers of dense mocha colored foam. Aroma is fruity coffee with thick caramel, molasses, toffee, and milk chocolate. Roasty and toasty malts lay underneath. Green pepper is starting to pop through, but it's very minor. This bottle is ~8 months old at time of review. Flavor profile is milk chocolate with more faint dark chocolate behind. Coffee comes in behind the chocolate. It swoops in with medium body and medium intensity. Roasty, toasty malts establish a thick and full base underneath. Toffee, cocoa, and molasses mingle in random moments. Mouth feel is thick, with a decadent and creamy texture. Imagine drinking whole milk stuffed with cocoa powder and coffee, and taking a bite of milk chocolate immediately afterwards. Overall, a thick and full stout that leaks coffee from its pores. Splendid simplicity in its focus on coffee and thick stout.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 750mL bottle. Dated: 07/20/21.
